Cycling soreness

HappySeven · 04/05/2017 21:09

I've cycled for years and apart from that bruising on my sitting bones I get if I haven't cycled for a while I've never had a problem... until recently.

Over the last few weeks I've found that I'm getting very sore along my undercarriage when I'm cycling. The first few times I only realised when showering afterwards but today I was aware of it while actually cycling.

Anyone got any ideas as to what I'm doing differently or should do to stop it?!?

fungal infec?

There was a segment on women's hour last week with the doctor that looks after the Vulval health of the British cycling ladies. She had some good tips (which I can't remember I'm afraid!)

HappySeven · 04/05/2017 21:35

I don't think it's fungal as I don't have any other symptoms like itchiness and it goes away when I don't cycle.

Thanks for the tip off of woman's hour - listening to it now as I type!

Let me know what tips they had, I get this too.

I find shifting positons can help, and having a comfy saddle (although if it's only developed recently and you haven't changed the bike then that's unlikely to be the cause). Have you checked that everything's as normal with the bike - no flat tyres etc.?

Bike looks fine and I only did the tyres the other day. It's worth listening to the podcast especially as you can leap to the relevant part really easily. I didn't find that bit that useful but if you leave it running there's someone else talking about handlebar position etc and how that can affect your comfort. I haven't changed anything but I am aware that if I push on my arms I take the weight back off the sore area and I'm now wondering whether my recent ITB issue is to blame as she talks about hip issues causing problems. I'd better get stretching and see if it helps.
