Do I really need top-range trainers for C25K?

I used to run, never more than 5K & wore Asics, which I was fitted for using a treadmill. I am a pronator.

Fast forward about 10 years, and I usually walk briskly in trainers, I am thinking of doing C25K.

When I went to my local running shop earlier today, hoping to buy a cheap pair around £50-60, the assistant was advising to have gait analysis on the treadmill & get fitted properly.

The updated version of my old Asics cost £115 Shock. Do I really need such an expensive pair for my purposes?

So I tried the Nike outlet & found them unhelpful/untrained; the trainers seemed really flimsy.

Would it be pragmatic to buy the previous seasons' Asics online, at a reduced price? So going for the GT2000 v4 or v3, instead of v5 (current season). Or do I really need the treadmill analysts for my purposes?

TIA.

If you know which sole you need (it's max for pronators in Asics, I think) then yes of course it's fine to buy online.

If you're near a Runners Need, try them during their sale, as I got my entry level shoe from them at about half the headline price.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I'm not near one of these stores but will see if they have a website.

I was so bamboozled earlier - and shopping with a toddler in tow doesn't help.

Sportsshoes.com is great for last seasons shoes at massive discounts. TBH, I did c25k and my first 10k event in trainers I hadn't ever been fitted for without any issues, so if you know the size and model you need I think you are fine
