Please share your motivation with me!

I used to be so fit. I was an insanity graduate twice over, so strong and proud of my body. For the last 3 years, since becoming a single parent, exercise has been (or at least felt) nigh on impossible, both due to time constraints and severe lack of energy and motivation. But I'm ready to start again.

In the evenings, while lying in bed, I am full of the right self-talk and want to do it the next day, but by morning it is all gone!

I don't want to read about how many miles people have clocked up or how many pounds or inches they have lost as I find it demotivating. I have a few pounds to lose and lots of wobble to form up, but mostly I just want to feel good again.

So please can you tell me what you say to yourself, pictures that inspire you, reasons why you do it, benefits apart from weight loss etc. I need something I can read when I'm talking myself out of it every day!

Thank you Smile

I started getting for out of an irrational fear of dying young and leaving my children! I knew I couldn't eliminate all the risks but if I was fit I was at least in with a chance! I started at bootcamp once a week, I was so unfit, so I worked hard to catch up with the others. Then I got into running. My motivation now for continuing 4 years on is that I love feeling strong and fit, I enjoy doing races in different places, including last week's London marathon, which I would never have imagined myself doing! And I love how proud my family are of me and I seem to have actually inspired other people that I know, which amazes me.

Thank emummy - the fear of dying young and/or being unfit in older age is definitely something I can work with!

I used to love feeling strong too. I need to get back to that.

I actually did get on the treadmill yesterday, and going to again today. It's easier when I have time off. I just need to find the motivation to fit it in around work in a normal week too.

I have secondary reasons like health and ageing well, but the reason I actually exercise is because I enjoy it. I like the feeling of being tired and sweaty and having done my best, and I like the cameraderie of Crossfit.

I do it because I set myself a goal in 2017 to do the NHS recommended levels of exercise (150 mins per week) and I'm motivated by numbers. I keep track of each week's total in a book and I know I'll feel bad if I have to write down that I didn't reach my target.

I also do it because I enjoy it and as hard as it is to get out, once I'm out I know I'll feel a healthy glow for the rest of the day.

I sign up for one class a week, after a few months I add another class.

Just start slow, and go back once a week?
