Sore knees from running

Have just done C25K w2r2 and my knees hurt! I seem to get different niggles each run. This is what put me off in the past, but I have already discovered running works wonders for my mood (I have anxiety) and I want to get fitter, so I'm determined to continue. I currently weigh 14st3lb and my BMI is around 34, so I am obese. Could my weight be part of the problem? Have seen on other threads that heavier ladies are doing C25K too, so it should be possible? I wear off the shelf Karrimor running shoes, so not great but not the worst either.

Could you still do the c25k but walk it all- gentle walk followed by faster pace? You can enjoy the scenery then too. just while you sort your footwear out?

Puffins, I had knee pain from running too. After getting decent trainers, a knee strengthening workout routine and cutting down running on pavements, the other thing that helped was Omega 3 supplements.

I tend to get sore knees when I'm in need of new trainers.

And I've always gone for sports direct or tk maxx rather than expensive brands/types (around £35 mark) but a new supportive pair makes all the difference.

When I'm running a lot I also notice that the shoes I wear at other times make a difference too, so really flat shoes, pumps etc will cause my knees to hurt more. So I tend to avoid them in favour of more support.

I've had intermittent knee problems since I started running in Jan this year. I've persevered but rested where possible and used ice to bring down inflammation. I do pilates once a week which I think really helps because it strengthens the core and if you look up exercises for runners they're mostly the same things you'd do in pilates. I also vary my runs and still use intervals for longer runs which I think helps to limit injury.

I am fairly small and suffer all kinds of aches and pains when running. Mostly they are because other bits are weak. There are some great short workouts on-line that can help build strength - squats in particular can help glute strength. Have a look at Jillian Michaels.
Good luck and remember not to let perfection get in the way of better!

How's it going op?

Just agreeing with decent trainers - I use Asics GT 1000 or Nike Lunarglide. And ... I only run on treadmills. I just couldn't do outdoor anymore.

Also, my knees started to swell as i built up mileage/speed. So I used anti-inflammatory gel. I was already to go to a sports physio if that didn't work, but luckily it did.
