Bike recommendations please

Just that really. Have decided to cycle to work to get fitter. The journey is half an hour each way alongside a bus way so pretty flat. I have a bike that was given to me but it's quite old and heavy. Have a big birthday coming up so thought I would treat myself to a new one. Was thinking hybrid. Any suggestions of make price to pay etc. Something to make it easier on the knees!

I tried hybrid specialised and ridgeback when looking for mine, ended up with the ridgeback because the position felt more comfortable. They do a range of hybrids for a range of prices. Really recommend you find a shop and test ride a few.

I bought a Pendleton briary from Halfords for about £170 in a sale. It's a cheap bike but very light and quick and comfortable. Quite sporty really and has survived daily commute with barely a murmur fir a year. So it's worth a look if you fancy a cheap bike to get started with.

Am giving mine to DD1 however and am lokkibg for a better quality hybrid around the £400 mark. Am looking a Ridgeback and Specialised as well. Also seen recommendations for Carerra and for Decathlon bikes (!) which apparently have good components.

Thanks for your replies everyone sorry for the delay replying have been driven mad with toothache for the last week. Ordered a Briary and picked it up today. it's amazing what a difference it makes its so light and quick compared to my old bike can't wait to start cycling property
