Do you get hot/sweaty when you exercise?

I do a mixture of classes (Insanity, yoga, pilates, step) and cardio & resistance machines. I've noticed that except for Insanity participants I seem to be the sweatiest person in the gym Blush I wear 3/4 leggings and a racer-back vest top to allow the sweat to evaporate but am constantly baffled by people wearing full tracksuits/hoodies.

Am an overly sweaty person or just pushing myself too hard? Even during yoga and pilates I work up a fair sweat, surely that's normal? Confused I'm not including the weight-lifting guys in this category btw or the slackers that fanny around on the treadmill updating their FB status Grin

I sweat like mad after my cardiovascular session the gym (not so much during weights) but I am overweight and wear a thin hoodie style top (and I do put effort in I just like to cover my arms!).

Badgerlady · 12/02/2017 07:08

I'm slim, fit and sweat ALOT. I notice that it takes me quite along time to cool down after I get hot and to warm up if I get cold so think it may be my internal temperature settings are wonky!

Thefitfatty · 12/02/2017 07:26

I sweat for anything and everything. And I'm quite fit. My brother and mother are the same way. We're a sweaty bunch.

newmumwithquestions · 12/02/2017 07:29

I'll match your sweat and raise you a beetroot face.

bittapitta · 12/02/2017 07:31

Some odd misinformation on this thread. The fitter you are, the sooner and more you sweat. Unfortunate side effect of getting fit.

BusterTheBulldog · 12/02/2017 07:51

I swear loads too, and go bright red-or have a 'healthy glow' as I tell myself. All the fu people at my gym defo sweat, it's v reassuring! My gym friend and husband are also sweaters too which helps!

ChickyDuck · 12/02/2017 07:54

Yep, slim and fit here, and used to be super fit (trained twice a day and competed competitively in my sport) and I'm a sweaty sausage. Sadly accompanied with a beetroot red face too.

ChickyDuck · 12/02/2017 07:56

And Wheat, spinning is definitely the sweatiest exercise. When my very fit squad (see above) used to do it as cross training our puddles would join together to make one large gross pool!!

Somehowsomewhere · 12/02/2017 07:57

I've never seen anyone exercising in a hoodie who was actually putting any effort in

I wear a hoodie at the gym as I am massively self conscious and that's my comfort zone. I put a lot of effort in.

mumonashoestring · 12/02/2017 08:00

I sweat. And turn bright red.

A colleague and I both cycle to work - she does the whole journey at this time of year in leggings, jogging bottoms, vest, t-shirt, hoody, coat, balaclava type thing under her cycle helmet, gloves... I stop halfway to take my coat off and arrive in t-shirt, leggings and a range of sweat marks Hmm

MissCalamity · 13/02/2017 20:21

I've recently taken up spinning & oh my God I am like sweaty mcsweatyson! I forgot my little towel last week so was dripping all over the bike, urgh... My arms shine with sweat in the blue lighting of the room, it's fab! Grin

True, plus sweating helps keep your heart rate down, so if you don't sweat much, you may be unable to maintain an intensity that a sweatier person would be able to maintain, all other things being equal.

megletthesecond · 14/02/2017 06:45

I don't sweat much but I can sustain a hard work out, whether that's running or aerobic. But I can sit in a sauna and not sweat much either Confused.

KoalaDownUnder · 14/02/2017 07:00

I sweat like a sweaty pig. I'm not overweight or unfit.

When I was slimmer and fitter than I am now, I sweated even more.

skerrywind · 14/02/2017 07:12

or the slackers that fanny around on the treadmill

I gave up at that point.

I hate superior gym goers.

I have exercised regularly for many years, and it's this attitude that puts many people off going to the gym.

SomewhatIdiosyncratic · 14/02/2017 23:44

I sweat and go beetroot red (fit, slim).

I think I sweat more easily these days than I did in my 20s before I took up running. I used to take much longer to break out in a sweat in a hot climate than DH did.

Kikikaakaa · 16/02/2017 10:43

I use triple dry for armpits, it's amazing stuff! I sweat in other places still but I used to sweat a lot in my armpits. Mainly now it's just my face

Bloopbleep · 16/02/2017 10:56

I was always astounded by women wearing full make up in the gym who left the way they arrived. I broke into a sweat walking up the stairs to the gym and was beetroot by the time I'd selected my workout. I like to think I was just working harder and was not there to be seen

ChipInTheSugar · 16/02/2017 10:57

I don't sweat too much but go a dreadful shade of what Dulux call "Sumptious Plum" Grin

Kikikaakaa · 16/02/2017 11:01

I wear make up, I have acne and I am self conscious!

BitOutOfPractice · 16/02/2017 11:02

The harder I work, the more I sweat. Everyone in my spin class comes out dripping with sweat so I think you're perfectly normal OP. I did a long very slow run on the treadmill last night and I virtually had to be rehydrated like one of those puccini mushrooms Grin

mumofthemonsters808 · 16/02/2017 11:11

I'm slim and I sweat, my face is also bright red and strands of my hair slip out from my ponytail and stick to my forehead. I wear a hoodie until I've warmed up.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 16/02/2017 11:15

I don't sweat loads or go red but I do sweat. I couldn't wear tracksuits or hoodies etc, I'd overheat very quickly. I prefer to be on the cold/cool side at the beginning because I know I'll soon warm up (boil to death) when things get going.

humanfemale · 17/02/2017 18:59

Think some people just don't sweat as much, nothing to do with fitness as far as I can see. I go to saunas and can sit there for fifteen minutes without breaking a sweat.
