Trainers. Any suggestions?!

I have been much more active this last year and I am finding my trainers aren't the most supportive for my feet!

I have started running more and the longer I run the more my feet hurt. Upon removing my trainers I've got 2 inch blisters appearing in the inside of my arch. Wide foot problem?!

Can anyone recommend any decent supporting trainers? Or make any suggestions as to measuring and correctly sizing shoes.

It can be easiest, though more expensive, to go to a running shop for advice before buying a different pair of shoes. Otherwise, always go a size up from your normal, and think about whether you like a more cushioned feel or not.
Also, blisters can be caused by socks as well as shoes; a good pair of running socks are worth their weight in gold! I mostly use Hilly or Thousand mile socks but there are plenty of good ones out there.

Thanks emummy. I def need new ones, think mine are too narrow. And are quite seasoned now! Didn't know about going a size up, but makes perfect sense! Will also be sourcing socks!!!

It's worth trying a few brands too - I have wide feet so need to buy Asics as they are made on a wider last than Brooks or Mizuno

Asics. Tick! Thanks!

What size feet R U, Xmasfairy? And how far do you run?
I am about 6G, with high insteps. I manage fine size 7 in Sports Direct, but I never go above 5 miles in one spell.

I have some by sketchers with a cushioned sole, they are lonely and bouncy to run on.

Tk Maxx have a lot in at the mo if you've got one near you

Still early days, and not covering great distances (yet!) 2.5 miles so far. Training for my first 5k.

A new tkmaxx has just opened down the road. And I have a sports direct. Will pop over later. Thanks

I'm a 7.... not sure about width

I actually find brooks the widest! They have the best toe box for me and support, goes to show everyone is different. (Though aasics did fit they caused me calf problems with their support)

I used sweatshop - gait analysis and then a 28 day return period if the shoes don't suit. I road ran in my aasics before switching to brooks and no questions asked after 4 weeks.

I'm usually a 4-4.5 in shoes in wide fit. (Clark's for instance) but wear a size 5 in brooks. Have been running two years.

I've always found Asics to be the best running shoes. So light, cushioned and fit like a glove, never had a blister from them. Nothing else I've tried comes close.

lljkk · 15/10/2016 12:12

(They say) Gait analysis is only useful if you mostly (80%+) run on pavement.

I mostly run on trails, and I'm not having several pairs of different types of running shoes for different terrain. My house is cluttered enough already.

I'm new to running, used ancient trainers for the first two months then went to a specialist running gear shop and had gait analysis done. What was really interesting was trying on different brands - Nike, Adidas, Mizuno and Saucony. The Saucony trainers felt as though I was walking on air. Definitely would recommend trying get a few brands to get an idea of what you like the feel of. Also went up half a size.
