Where did you buy your running trainers?

Hi, new to C25K and in need of trainers. Please can you tell me which shop you used and how you chose your trainers?

Just trying to suss out what to do as so many different types of trainers and not sure where to go.

We have a local running shop that get you on a treadmill & examine your stride. I usually buy Nike Pegasus tbh. Try and find a specialist running shop.

Agree - go somewhere with gait analysis. I'm just about to start C25K as well and went to sweatshop this week and got checked out and have a Nike pair I never would have picked (because they don't look as if they have much support - but trainers have moved on since I last bought some!)

I went to a local store and had gait analysis on a treadmill for my first pair. So important to get the right type for your gait if you are going to avoid injury.

Once they wore out, I knew what make/model suited my feet so I bought the next pair online.

Fab, that's what I needed. We have a Sweatshop. Will go on pay day

I really don't rate Sweatshop - In fact, they sent me elsewhere!

There's a nationwide chain called Up and Running who are much better. If you're in London I'd recommend Run and Become in Victoria. There's one in Cardiff too, and j think, elsewhere in London. In Sheffield - Accelerate in Attercliffe.

I went to Up and Running a few days a go ..... first run in new shoes this morning, new shoes, new running club. Let's hope they are good, toying with wearing my old ones in case I fall over!

Independent running shop with gait analysis.

Personally I would be very cautious with gait analysis. I know 2 people who ended up with injuries after their analysis as they were given shoes which were wrong for them. There is currently a lot of debate as to the effectiveness of it.

I'm a gait analysis sceptic and would never use a shop that makes you run on a treadmill, my technique is horrific on a treadmill, heavy heel strike and over pronation, in real life I've got a forefoot strike that changes to mid foot when I'm tired.

Also it's likely your form will improve the fitter you get so I'd just get a comfy pair for now and then if you want to get gait analysis when your up to running 10 or so mins at a time as that will get you a better idea of what your for strike is

I go to Sports Direct & choose what's comfy & not too expensive. Has worked well so far.

I went to a larger Sports Direct that has a machine to scan your foot to diagnose whether you have a high instep etc - they then showed me which trainers were best for my foot. Been wearing mine for a year and they're the best I've ever had. And they were only £25!
