Commute from car to station, station to work and back again. Plus quick walk at lunchtime.
Sat I do the grocery shop and then a walk in the pm.
Sun is my rest day.
So 60 000 a week.

One of my Fitbit friends does 120k a week. I am deeply suspicious Hmm.
I gues it is accurate it's just that I don't tend to count a trip to the kettle. I must have a lot of cups of tea

I work from home so on those days unless I walk the dog I only manage 3-4K. I do tend to walk the dog tho. If I'm in meetings in London it's more like 6/7k. On the weekends it's usually 10k without thinking about it. I got it because I'm pregnant so not exercising formally. Am finding it a god incentive t make sure I DO walk the dog even if just a short way rather than make an excuse to skip it.

I hit 10000 once or twice a week. Tbh I struggle to see consistency - days I'm exhausted and have worked on my feet for hours i end up not meeting it. Staying home and puttering about I smash it! Might check its accuracy tomorrow Hmm

I'm really looking forward to not being pregnant and seeing what difference my usual activity levels are.

Most of the phone apps don't really count your actual steps, but estimate based on how far you've moved.

I've found that folding laundry tends to boost my total.

And agree about the sleep. I've never been a great sleeper, but I've discovered that I drop down to about 3 proper hours a night in the run up to my period.

I'm using a pedometer app, and I don't carry my phone constantly but my daily average is 12500 steps. Varies a lot though- on a work day I hit 10k by early afternoon (walk to bus, walk from bus, walking constantly at work) so will often hit 15-20k if I exercise as well. On a weekend day it can be that if I'm out and about, or just a few thousand if I'm not exercising and taking it easy. I do try to hit my target of 11500 per day though.

I have an office job (but it's a BIG building) so I average about 6000 steps when I'm in work. At weekends it varies wildly but if I go for a walk I can usually hit 10k.

Does anyone know where the 10,000 steps thing comes from?

I rarely do and am wondering how others do it so easily. I walk from home to work sometimes - it is just over 2 miles and it takes me 50mins and it is c 6-7k steps. So if I take the tube to work I don't get anywhere near 10k. I am on holidays at the moment and hiked up a large mountain yesterday and it was only 12k steps.

So am Shock at how many people are walking 1.5-2hrs a day. How much are you walking to do 15k+ in a day? For those of you who do the "school run" are you actually spending 90mins trailing through fields each way? I don't get it.

I don't have a Fitbit but use my phone.

nope I'm useless, I did 4k yesterday! I probably do 10k once a week, really need to work on that...!

Apparently fairly arbitrary Hermione - sounds better than 8k steps?

Stealth- I work in a hospital and am generally walking between wards/clinics all day. I do a ward round in the morning and then visit other wards/clinics in the afternoon. Sometimes I'm on a cardiac arrest team so I have to sprint across the site. The everyday steps build up easily that way. So often I get up at 6, go for a run (5-6k steps), walk to bus stop (2k), walk from bus stop to hospital (1k), walk about at work (5-10k depending on day), and then go home the same way (3k). If I am doing the nursery pick up or drop off my walks to and from bus stops go up to 8k steps. So during the week I'm very active even if I don't go for a run. Today I'm taking it easy- walked to shops and otherwise pottering at home so I'll probably only hit 6k steps or so.

I do 10k easily on weekdays - walk to station, walk from station to work and back again. Pop out to get sandwich at lunch. If I go to the gym too I can easily do 15k per day.

Weekends I can do 20k steps per day and have done as much as 30k in one day. I am quite sporty though and do cycling (which counts as steps), and look after a horse so am on my feet a lot.

The Fitbit says that the American heart association recommends 10k steps per day. I don't know why that rather than other quantities but is a round number and is quite hard but relatively achievable with some effort. So all in all feels like a good number. I still have nearly 3k steps to do today and I have already done my run!!! Agh!

7days. How easy is it to hit your 10k? Are you monitoring and trying to get it or are you just surprised when it tells you you have already completed it? I have now hit it for today but have been trying hard!

I've had a Fitbit for 6 weeks (lent Grin ) and have only missed 10k twice. Usually clock up 15k or more. And usually more than 40 floors.
but am a bit worried about what PP said about dominant hand as that's where I wear it...

Sometimes if its a windy day it can make your daily floors go up (obviously only if you go out in the wind!)

Well there is always a big spike in activity in the mornings getting ready to leave the house. Grin
My children are still small soeven a day at home I will be up and town wiping noses, fetching water, putting shoes back on. It adds up and even just a little ten minute walk once or twice a day adds up more than you'd think.

What is it About my Fitbit use that is taking Up all my data? I have switched off all day sync.could it be text notifications? I have gone from always just using one third of my 3gb data allowance to wiping out the whole thing in a week?

I wear mine on my left non dominant wrist if I wear it on my right wrist it registers all sorts of things as steps (drinking tea uses five to ten). It definitely makes me do more, my morning housework/garden routine uses eighteen hundred.

Term time I easily rack up 20k+ mon-friday. Weekends a bit harder but try for 10-14k minimum.

Most I have done in a day are 55k which was for a challenge. Regularly hit 30k or thereabouts.

I walk everywhere and tend to find the long way round if possible.

Ah now clearly you need to master The Bob as it is known in our house. Every ad break, cleaning teeth, spare moment I Bob up and down on the spot.

Some days especially work days it's the only way I can get anywhere near 7k. Non work days I easily hit over 10k and days I run and do the school run it can be anything from 12k upwards

YesThisIsMe · 04/04/2016 20:43

On days when I only go to work and back I rack up about 6,000 steps. About 8 minutes to the tube, 8 minutes from tube to work, then the same in reverse is about 5,000 steps in total and another 1,000 toddling around at work and home. But if I do a school run on top of that, or some shopping, or we walk back from school instead of catching an overcrowded bus, then I can do 10,000 without really trying. Average this month is 8,500.
