Shin splints

Doctor Google tells me this is the name for the pain in the inner front of my calves. One leg yesterday which I obviously ignored, now both today.

I've been doing Davina/Jillian DVD's on a hard floor at home, wearing good trainers but I have flat feet.

Pretty much think it is shin splints. But, Doctor Google is telling me to rest for an awful long time, and I don't want to. Is it essential to stop DVD's? I'll go low key obviously until the pain diminishes. Or shall I just stop for however long it takes for the pain to diminish? It's gutting as I had to stop exercise for 8 weeks when I hurt my neck (from driving not exercise) and just getting back into my groove. But too fast it seems :/

Aha, did a search for them on here and it seems a couple of weeks exercising isn't enough for shin splints. Thanks Doctor Google!

Possibly just weird sprains in both shins?

I got shin splints from one bout of excersise. A 24 mile run in neutral trainers. I now wear arch supports from Amazon for my flat feet now.

I've not done a 24 mile run, ever!

Totted it up and it's 370 mins split over the last 8 days with one rest day. And dog walks. Really not that much.

Shin splints basically mean you've done too much too soon - very common after a few days of running everyday in new runners ime and yes, the only cure is rest. The sooner you rest, the shorter the time you need to rest

Some people think it means the shim bone is damaged-it doesn't, it's inflammation of the membrane around the shin bone.

Running your thumbs hard along the sides of the bone will hurt like hell, but will help aid recovery. Or a foam roller does much the same job

Yes it does! But thank you EWLT.
