Strength training at home - what, how and when???

I have been very overweight and fairly unfit for a number of years and I'm fed up! I have recently started SW and have lost 1.5 stone with 3 left to go. I have also started the C25k but I am taking it very slowly. I used to run fairly regularly a few years ago but I injured my knee which then took ages to heal (the extra weight didn't help). I do a bit of cycling and walking with the kids but that's about it for exercise.

I am aware my whole body feels 'weak' and flabby which I hate and I am worried about getting injured again. I really want to do some strength trainng to, well, strengthen my body but I'm not sure where to start. It has to be at home as I have my kids at home during the days I'm not working and I am also studying or working 4 evenings a week so I can't get to gym/a class. I did 30 day shred a couple of years ago but that made my knees worse. I've looked at fitness blender but there are too many options and I don't know where to begin. Any tips or ideas?

I've found that Pilates is making me feel stronger. I've got the Lynne Robinson DVDs, express with pat cash and powerhouse.

Thanks Roganjosh, I'll have a look at those.

Have a look at the Body by You book. Very simple, very scalable, and no equipment needed (although I do use a pull up bar at various heights)

Have you tried narrowing down the options on fitness blender using the search feature? The level 3 workouts are usually a good start and it helps if you have dumbbells (I got mine from argos) but there are bodyweight ones too. I like this one arms and legs and the squat challenges like this 100 squat varieties. They also have downloadable programmes for about a fiver which tell you which to do each day (the programmes are a mix of cardio and strength).

I also recommend the fitnessblender website and having another look at their site. It's great for variety, you can choose strength or cardio and loads of other options and also target different areas each time.
I also only work out at home using fitnessblender and have bought decent weights - worth the investment if you're not spending money at gyms etc.

Thanks all. I'll have another look at fitnessblender. I think I'm just not sure what to look for - do they have general all over work outs and if not where should I start? Core?

Start here. Tick the boxes to narrow down strength, area of body, what equipment you have etc. You don't need to fill in calories or keywords and there's an option for total body. I would recommend downloading one of their programmes though if you're not sure which to do and when: they basically tell you which video to do each day so that you workout efficiently and not overtrain one area. I'm doing their 2nd busy people programme at the moment. Programmes here

Thanks CadiM, I have downloaded the Fitness Blender's 4 Week Low Impact Fat Loss Program to see how I get on with it. I might try one of the longer fat loss programs after that. Thanks again for the advice.
