Can I ask about trainers?

I am fairly new to exercise, and stupidly signed up for 3 months of personal training ( please tell me I will grow to love it?!)
Are trainers all suitable for general gym work? Or are fashion trainers not the same as gym trainers? I have several pairs of Nike trainers that I wear out and about but am not sure if they are ok for exercising. I'm not doing anything high impact as I have a knee injury.
It's too stupid a question to ask my trainer Hmm

They're fine. You can wear anything from those little canvas sneakers to running shoes. I wear cheap trainers from Asda. It's seriously no problem.

In fact, I even run in cheap trainers. Studies have shown that the fancy running shoes that are meant to be chosen for one's unique strides are more likely to result in injury than bog standard cheap ones.

And I think you'll enjoy your trainer. Ask them to teach you how to exercise so that you'll be able to carry on by yourself. Ask to try a variety of techniques and talk about which things you like and why. There's so many ways to do things.

I love to walk fast uphill, like to run, and detest cycling. You may find the elliptical or rowing machine feels right for you.

And there are infinite ways to strength train. Once you understand the muscles and movements and try different things, and learn about correct form for the motions, you'll see there are dozens of ways to strengthen every part of the body. This will translate into any gym or situation you have to work with in the future.

General gym work is fine compared to running as there is less impact and less focus on specific body parts, so less injury risk.

if you're doing non impact stuff I don't think it will matter at all.

However, do ask your PT - just because this'll be their specialist subject and they will love to talk to you about it! Having gone to the expense of getting a PT, you might as well enjoy it and form a good relationship with them.

I would check your arches like at sports direct if you are flat footed etc.
