Embarassed to run...

Hi Everyone, I really want to start running for my fitness and to lose weight, I have everything I need, exercise clothes, sports bra, running trainers and a brill heart rate monitor watch which tells me how many calories burned etc... but when it comes to getting out there I just cant bring myself to do it! I have very large boobs you see (G cup!!) and I'm terrified of people watching me and commenting on them! It sounds ridiculous and I sometimes think to myself if I wanted to loose weight that badly I wouldn't let it stop me but it does.

So what I'm asking is, has anyone else ever had similar feelings when starting to run?

Thanks everyone for your advice!! I started running that night! I was so mortified to start with every time a car went past me I stopped running lol but I just try and keep my head down now and remember why I am doing this in the first place... to lose weight and be confident. Due to run again tonight :)

Good for you! Everytime you go out it will get a bit easier Smile

At the end of the day, you are the one who is going out and doing something positive for you - nobody can knock that! Keep at it :)

Hi I started couch to 5k back in April. I am a G cup and was more than 4 stone over weight when I started.

The first week or so was hard, but my dh runs and he kept encouraging me and the first time I ran 2 k without stopping I felt on top of the world.

Now I run 2-3 times per week and usually run 5-7 k each time. I love it, lost weight and trimmed up. I have dropped 2 dress sizes in my trousers.

Go for it, I have never had a negative comment, smiles and hellos from other runners and dog walkers.

OP I started doing parkrun on a saturday too, and there is a great phrase used there. I come in almost last, having taken twice as long as the first one in and the volunteers cheer us all in, and when I say how slow I am they say.

You are faster than all those people at home in bed!.

It makes me feel great!

Don't be embarrassed!! The way I see it, you might be out there running, worrying about your impressive knockers - but your the one who will be shifting weight, looking fab and getting less and less embarrassed everytime you go out running....whereas the people who are still sitting at home doing nothing will still be fat and embarrassed! I live on an RAF station, and use the same gym as all the guys...I started going back about 4 weeks after dd was born, so was very self-conscious about my gigantic milk cannons, and wobbly tummy. But do you know what? I just thought: screw the men who want to be mean, because I'm the one who's making the effort while their wife is probably sat at home eating cake. As I kept going, the embarrassment slowly melted away - especially when I started seeing results!! Go ahead and do it Smile get your trainers on, strap down the bazoomas and build the hot body you want GrinFlowers

Hooray - well done. Now, keep it up and it will just get easier and easier Grin

I found that not having eye contact with people ensured I didn't get psyched out
I second that, big wraparound shades and earphones...you're in a runners bubble.
As far as I'm concerned I move into a different dimension when I'm running and so am only visible to passers by as a sort of shadow, if at all.
(Dogs can definitely see me though)
