6 week half marathon training? Am I an idiot?

So this summer I discovered running, got up to doing 10K in less than an hour and signed up for a half (Oxford one). Then I just stopped running. There are now 6 weeks to go. Do I a) quit and try again next year or b) go for it? I have found a 6 week plan, but the longest run is only (haha) 10 miles. Advice welcome. Am happy with either option, but need to get focused now if going for it!

Yep,go for it. Completely doable

My first half I only trained up to ten miles and I'm a lot slower at 10k than you are

Agree, go for it. You might not do as good a time as if you had trained longer, but if you can run 10 miles in the next 6 weeks you will at least finish the HM.

Sounds doable.
I did my first last year, 7 months after completing C25k. In 2 hour training runs I got to a maximum of 10 miles.

I completed the 13.1 in 2:30. I waliked much of the last 3 miles, but that was connected with having spent a good 10 minutes visiting various portaloos around the second half of the course. Having not been ill off work 4 days earlier. I had the energy to keep going and indeed walked the last miles quicker than some runners, I just couldn't handle the impact, so I'd say the training plan worked.

Definitely go for it.

Otherwise, running will continue to be something that you're going to do in the future rather than doing now.

Good luck!

I went from novice to half marathon in 9 months last year - very doable.

I did my first 10k in Nov 2013 in 46 mins and my first HM in 1H43 5 months later, at age 48 having started running at age 47. Anything is possible - running is such a combination of body strength, heart fitness and very importantly, the mental willpower to finish.

Can you still go 10k comfortably? Just add a mile to your long run every week until the Half.
