Any pole people still around?

LaurieJuspeczyk · 10/06/2015 02:37

I've literally just started pole classes (on spinny, only had one lesson so far) and I've been reading some of the old threads by other people who've done it. Anyone want to come and inspire me through my course, and/or bang on about how great it is so I don't end up boring all my RL friends with my newfound obsession? Grin

I used to do it and loved it!!! Only stopped as classes stopped Sad

LaurieJuspeczyk · 12/06/2015 18:55

That's a shame! How long did you do it for? I'm taking a six week course, and going to go to a drop-in class yesterday but got distracted by the offer of a film night with a friend Blush I think I'd like to carry on with it after the course finishes, though.

Did 12 Weeks in total (not much I know lol )
When I stopped I took up Hawaiian hula, Egyptian bellydance and Tahitian o'tea and ori (all with the same teacher) and now perform with her part time, which I love. also do burlesque for fun!
But would love to take pole up again but it seems to have gone out of fashion in my area (and tbh don't the time)

I did pole, loved it. Started again and found the classes were really strict with them insisting I go through the beginners classes again even though I was more than capable of lots of inverts.

I have a spinny x-pole at home and I love it.

LaurieJuspeczyk · 13/06/2015 00:41

AM that's ten weeks more than me! I wasn't expecting to enjoy it but I really do, even without really being able to do anything yet. I need to start going to the drop ins in between the proper classes so I can actually get good, but they're mixed ability so I'm scared everyone else will be amazing and I'll be really self-conscious.

Pixa I would love to have a pole at home to practise on (well, maybe when I actually get good Grin) Unfortunately I live in a tiny shared house and move all the time, so not much chance of that any time soon!

Just have fun and don't worry about the others. They've all been a beginner at some point too!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 19/06/2015 10:10

Yes, I'm a pole addict and I love it. Been poling for about 5 years, been teaching it for a year.

Stick with it, once you start inverting and climbing it gets so addictive.

:)

AMcoffeeLover · 19/06/2015 13:59

Betty where do you teach?

LaurieJuspeczyk · 20/06/2015 12:53

Hi Betty! I saw you on the last threads, but wasn't sure if you were still around under that name.

It's addictive already Smile Unfortunately I pulled a muscle quite badly during the class last week so I've had to miss a few sessions, very frustrating!

AM I'm in Essex.

Laurie - when I first starte poling I had a fair few injuries (mainly shoulder) but you do harden to it eventually. Just make sure you get a decent really decent warm up before you start.

I start my sessions off with a good warm up, then we do pull ups on the pole to increase body strength and then we start the pole work.

AMcoffeeLover · 22/06/2015 10:09

Fancy doing some classes in bucks?!

LaurieJuspeczyk · 22/06/2015 22:58

Betty it was an abdominal one, from going into seat... I think I was trying to pull back from the pole because I knew it would hurt. We do do some warm up, probably not enough around that area though.

Anyway I managed a wrist seat today, yay Smile Admittedly it wasn't very elegant, I looked like an upturned beetle Grin

I pole, have been learning since October, really enjoy it, has given me biceps and many bruises Grin

LaurieJuspeczyk · 24/06/2015 18:33

Haha yes, I've been getting some concerned questions from friends about the state of my feet and shins! I'm looking forward to the abs/biceps myself Grin

You can save your feet and buy some mighty grip sock things, they help with grip and climbing when you are learning.

However, if your feet are hurting because of climbing then you are using them too much, you shouldnt be relying on your feet to climb :)

LaurieJuspeczyk · 14/07/2015 13:34

Oh that's interesting to know! I thought you were supposed to grip with your knees, but my instructor said I would slip that way and I should use my feet more. Is it supposed to be a combination of both?

OP posts:
BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 14/07/2015 14:16

No don't grip your knees, it's more upped body and minimal feet......one foot should be behind the pole with your heel on the other foot in front of the pole ........def not a knee grip

LaurieJuspeczyk · 15/07/2015 16:04

I think that's where the bruises are coming from though, when I let go with my arms to move up my feet are the only part of me that's gripping... is that wrong? (I know it's probably hard to say when you can't see me)

Hands low, knees tucked nice and high...don't overlap your hands and move them up one at a time.....small hands as the higher you place them the higher you have to shift your arse so keep your hands whilst you are learning about chin height, no higher

LaurieJuspeczyk · 07/10/2015 00:28

Well it's been a few months, but I finally got my basic invert yesterday!! So excited for all the new forms of pain I can put myself through now Grin
