OK C25k week 1 Day 1. Too hard

That was depressing. Just tried the very first day and could only do 6 of the 8 "runs". And that's after a couple of weeks of working up to it with doing much shorter intervals of running.
Surely if you are properly " couch level" you can't just suddenly zip off and do 8 x1 min runs?

Well, I did W1D3 today, and it was a real struggle! I've been feeling a bit rundown this weekend so I imagine that's why. On the plus side, my recovery afterwards was miles quicker! I'm tempted to repeat W1, just because I'd like to go into W2 feeling ready for the challenge rather than daunted by it.
How is everyone else doing?

JustBeingJuliet · 16/06/2015 11:16

Can I join in please? :) I've just started c25k today, although I'm doing it on a treadmill as oppose to actually going out running, as I'm too embarrassed Blush Just done w1d1 and it just about killed me, but I'm proud of myself for seeing it through, although I did fast walk the last couple of runs as oppose to actually running them! I have a lot of weight to lose so hoping this will help.

EnchantedBunny · 17/06/2015 09:58

Hi Juliet, well done on starting! I think that's the biggest hurdle to overcome.
I have just finished today's run, supposed to start W2 today, but feeling very daunted by it so am repeating W1! Not seeing any improvement in my pace or distance, but my recovery is still quicker, so there's definite progress!
Can I ask what others do for stretching prior to their warm up? At the moment I kind of wiggle about a bit Blush then do my warm up, and focus on stretching after cool down, but today I really felt the run in my legs. Shoulder I be doing the same stretches before as after?
Keep on ladies, I'm finding it very motivating having virtual run buddies! We'll be at W9 before we know it!

Hello again. Well I've just done week 2 day 1. EB I feel the same. Still feels very hard work but I am not quite as wiped out as week 1. Amazing how so little exercise seems to have so much effect, relatively speaking... But I still can't imagine running for 5 mins!

I have been very lax this weekend and not gone running at all! I'm going to do one more day of W1 tomorrow then start W2 on Wednesday. There, I have written it down so I HAVE to do it!

EnchantedBunny · 22/06/2015 10:08

W1 finished (again) today. I felt the difference, having missed Saturday's run, more achy and slower, but then it was raining too. W2 on Wednesday!
How is everyone else doing?

QforCucumber · 23/06/2015 20:15

I today have just completed w1 d1 - walked the last 3 runs as honestly felt like I was going to fall over. But did the full 30 mins total be it walking or running. Realised my sports bra is inadequate, and after years of never finding one to fit decided a supper top and a sports bra are the only things which will hold them in place. If anyone ever sees me ill be the one wearing the same bra and top every other day Hmm
legs hurt so dp had lovingly ran me a hot bath for when I came In. I'm really hoping to take some inspiration from here to know it won't always be this hard!

CMOTDibbler · 23/06/2015 20:19

Well done all of you, you are doing great!

EnchantedBunny · 24/06/2015 10:17

W2 D1 done! Managed to do all the runs, but slowed it right down to make sure, plus my knee is grumbling so thought that might stop any further damage. Really chuffed that I am able to do the slightly longer runs! 90s may not seem much but it's a long time when you're the one running it! How is everyone else doing? Q, well done for starting, try slowing your running right down, then you may find it easier to do all the runs. I run so slowly I'm sure an arthritic dog could overtake me!

Everyone is doing so well on this thread, to keep going no matter how hard it gets is really impressive. The earlier weeks are the hardest.

I have just finished Couch to 5k today (I do the Zombies Run version) so I thought I might have some helpful insight from being at the end of it.

I am very, very overweight, I wont say by how much but obese. When I started I could barely run the two minutes and the ten minutes were an impossible goal. When I came home after a run I had to spend ages sitting down and recovering.

Today I did my 5k and ran for 51 minutes straight, incredibly slowly but I did it. I didn't believe I would ever be able to do it right up to leaving for the attempt this morning.

The app only runs for 51 mins for this run but I felt I could have gone on longer. At the start of May I would never have been able to see myself doing this, or running at all really.

It is possible and you will all get there even though it is really hard. No matter how slow you go and how long it takes you to reach your goal you are beating all those still on the couch.

EnchantedBunny · 29/06/2015 12:43

Lilicat, I'm really inspired by your post, thank you.
But... Disaster! My knee is ever so painful so I am resting until it improves. I am really gutted about it, peed off that I have to take a break as I was getting into it, and really worried I won't start up again. Feeling quite tearful about it actually. Would have normally run this morning, and not doing it has left me feeling really blah about doing anything. Need to stop feeling sorry for myself.
I hope you're all getting on well with the program Smile

Lilicat1013 · 29/06/2015 14:41

Thank you EnchantedBunny! Sorry about your knee, try not to stress too much though. My husband hurt his knee and had to take a week of Couch to 5k but he went back it and said although it was hard at first getting back in to it he did it and got back on track. He has a stretchy knee support thing he got on eBay which he has said helps.

It is better to take the rest you need than risk a long term injury. Just think how much it increases your motivation and how desperate you will be to run by the time you get back to it.

Katisha · 30/06/2015 23:42

Hello all. I did week 2 and then didn't do it for 6 days. So the next run( week 2 repeat) was murder. But tonight I went a bit off piste and did a couple of two min runs and shock - a five minute one. This was due to dh not telling me what was going on as he came out with me and was put in charge of timings...
However I shall now return to week 3 proper so as not to be daft given my immense unfitness. But it's encouraging...

EB I hope things get better soon.

Wow Kat that's awesome! Well done you!
I'm hoping to get back to it next week, think I'll start back at W1 to ease my knee back into it. Thanks for the encouragement too Lilicat. A friend of mine said I should impress people with my 'running injury'! Grin
