Periods stopped after heavy exercising and sharp weight loss, help needed.

Back in mid January I started Beachbody T25 programme, then moved onto Insanity, followed by some hybrid programmes, so since then I've been working out about 6 days a week plus daily dog walks and occasional running. During this time my weight has dropped from around 62 kg down to roughly 55 kg. About 2 months ago strange things started happening, my period stopped and I started feeling constantly bloated, my lower stomach constantly looks like a balloon no matter how many ab workouts I do. I'm definitely not pregnant.

Anyway, having done some research online I now know that hormonal imbalance due to heavy exercise and sharp weight loss is an explanation for my troubles.

I'd love to know if anyone else has had experience of this. I'm trying to figure out the way to put my body back on track as I really don't want to give up exercising, I'm currently having a week off and am seriously craving my workouts!

I gathered that some supplements can help put things back in order, but not sure which ones and in what doses.

I'm feeling very lost and frustrated so would appreciate any help.

Fullsteam - posting in the hope this bumps your message and someone can see it and give advice. There actually is a similar thread in low carb but I found it confusing as to whether low carbing was helpful or not in restoring periods www.mumsnet.com/Talk/low_carb_diets/2380187-Periods

Hope someone knowledgeable comes along soon to give advice.

Sorry can't really help but it happened to me. Low carbing did it period stopped within the first month. A year or so after I stopped losing weight (bmi about 22 iirc), but kept it off, went to GP as periods had not returned. Many tests but no conclusion. I'm in my mid 40s and not yet perimenopausal, luckily my family is complete. Doctors now prescribed contraceptive pill as a form of hrt to preserve bone density. So I now have periods of some sort so can't tell if periods have returned now 4years later (been on the pill for about one now).

Have you been to see your gp? It's worth popping along and checking all is well regarding your stomach constantly looking bloated and your periods stopping. It is probably related to your exercise but it's worth making sure nothing else is going on.
