Eek, in a moment of madness I have agreed to take part in the Shine Walk, in London in September! I am not very fit, in fact I have done very little for the last 18 months because of back pain, but in the past I have done a couple of 5Ks and completed the C25K and enjoyed it thoroughly.

I feel I am a bit out of my comfort zone and the thought of 26.2 miles is rather daunting!!!! I keep telling myself it's only a "fun" walk with raising funds for Cancer in mind, there will be a small group of us so we can keep each other motivated.

Any advice from those with experience would be much appreciated.

I did it a couple of years ago. It is hard, very hard. Mainly because it takes so bloody long to do, and the fact that it's at night so your body just wants to sleep. We did it as a group of 4, one of us wasn't very fit and a bit overweight and she really struggled, but we stuck at it and all finished together. I've ran a marathon twice and I found walking it harder, because it just took so long, so I would say definitely do some really long walks in your training, I just ran while training so I wasn't putting in hour after hour after hour.
Good luck.

I completed the shine walk last year. It was pretty tough purely because it seemed to take so long and I nearly died of boredom of walking for so long! It actually ended up being 32 miles long last year as they changed the route at the last minute due to some technicality. The best advice I can offer would be to buy yourself the 1000 mile socks to wear on the night. The main complaint we witnessed were walkers suffering from blisters, with these socks I didn't even need compeed. Expensive for socks but well worth it.good luck

Never heard of the 1000 mile socks, just Google them, thank you.

Need all the advice I can get, haven't even started training properly yet! Thanks again. x
