How do you fit in running as a single parent?

I desperately want to start running again, I did begin the couch to 5k and really enjoyed it but suddenly found myself pregnant!

I have 4 dc's aged 12,10,8 and 7 months.

I also work on a Monday and Friday morning.

I used to run down the river which I enjoyed ( didn't feel confident enough to go out on the road until I could at least run for 20-30 mins without stopping) but unsure how easy it will be to run with a buggy and also what buggy is suitable (could try to pick up cheap of eBay)

Or I guess I could pay my childminder to have the baby for me a couple of mornings a week just for a hour.

How do you single mums out there do it?

Hi homepride
I've only started running since my ds started school so no solutions for you really.
I do wish I'd got into running when he was small and got a suitable buggy but I didn't and only now am losing the baby weight Blush
I also run at the weekend with ds on a bike but yours will be too young for that.
I would research buggies, look on eBay and go for it - good luck.

I jog with dd in the buggy!

could you run home from work?

I paid the teenager next door to look after them when she got in from school for an hour, two or three times a week.

Not actually a single mum, but dh was absent, so same logistical issues.

To be honest, if your eldest is 12, you aren't too far off just being able to go and leaving them to it, especially if you are only talking about half an hour.

My children are at school and I only work part time so i fit it in then plus i try and go at the weekend on the day they are with their dad. Its hard though fitting it all in like this weekend they are with me all weekend and obviously no school monday.
My kids are 7 and 8 though so Im going to try and get them involved by starting the couch to 5k with them. I'm upto 8k runs on my own so its a step down but better than nothing xxx

Have you tried a parkrun? Where I live people bring their kids. You see mum running ahead and once she finishes she comes back to look for the kids. Or she leaves the kids with one of the walkers to mop up. (My DH is often walking with the pushchair so one of our friend's kids walks some of it with him, runs some of it with me or her mum. She normally tries to beat me at the finish and we tend to do our 5k in under 40mins)
Worth a go.
Parkrun is free. All you need is to register and print a bar code. Is every Saturday at 8am near me.
