Powerhoop. Any good?

I'm curious. I run/jog a few times a week and have a gym membership which I use a couple of times a week (again, mainly cardio). I want to do more for my core and like the look of the hoop. I know it's bit bruisy when you start off but does it make a difference?

What weight do I need? I am 5'7" and 55kg (I vary between 53.5 - 55.5kg usually). Is it done by dimensions if user or do you work 'up' the weight gradient? Is it a case of the heavier the hoop the better the results?

Do you recommend it or is it faddy? Did you love it for a bit and then give it up? Why? Injury? Boredom? Novelty wore off? Lack of results?

Thank you Smile

Bumping as I really really want to hoop in the garden in the summer, post-baby! :)

I go to powerhoop classes at the local gym. They tend to have 4lb hoops there for you to use but I take my own 5lb hoop as I find it easier to use. The lighter the hoop the faster you have to move whereas if it is heavier it is slower and has more of a toning effect.

I had bruising after the first time but not since then. It helps tone the hips and waist area. You can also use it for arm exercises and incorporate it into a full body workout.

I have been going to hoop classes for over 2 years now and still enjoy them

I bought one. Went for the powerhoop slim in the end because I'm a beginner and DD can use it too. It's very easy to use (Dd isn't so sure though) and they are definitely right about using it for a couple of mins the first few times as it gives a pounding. The heavier ones with the internal nobbles must be hard going to start with Shock.

It definitely has an effect on your core though, obviously it's too early to see results but I can feel that the muscles are being worked.
