Running and breakfast!

Exactly that. What do you eat to keep you going if going out early? I've never been a breakfast person anyway and hate bananas so struggling Confused
For runs at other times what are your high energy tips?! Thanks.

Cup of tea before then scambled eggs on toast when i get back. Can eat breakfast then run.

MadauntofA · 19/04/2015 13:02

I always need to eat something - usually a banana and some fruit juice or for longer runs slice of wholemeal toast with peanut butter. The natural stuff is great - meridian I think, no added salt sugar or Palm oil. Straight after run has to be large glass of choc soya milk, shower then something a bit more substantial. How about breakfast bar/ jam on toast or sandwich?

meglet · 19/04/2015 13:10

small portion of sugary porridge and a cup of tea.

Unescorted · 19/04/2015 13:18

Depends on the run - up to an hour nothing until I get back. Otherwise a slice of toast or take a fruit bar / sweets with me in case I need the extra energy while I am out.

if I'm running for 90 mins plus then couple of dried figs, handful of walnuts/pumpkin seeds. Otherwise just a black coffee! Breakie when I get back

26Point2Miles · 19/04/2015 17:46

Muesli for long runs. London marathon next week so that's what I'll be having!

MehsMum · 19/04/2015 18:19

Cup of tea, 3-4m mile run, porridge.
In that order.

DryHeave · 19/04/2015 19:01

For me it's all about a good dinner & plenty of liquid (water, tea, no booze) the night before. If I jump right out of bed & get out I can do 90 mins without needing to have eaten breakfast. Then a large glass water, coffee and shower followed by a good breakfast once home. Usually then need an early lunch or snack late morning if not eating till later. I've been building up my fitness for a couple of years now, when I first started I found I got ravenous after a 45 minute session and had to have a banana before my shower or would feel lightheaded.

misssmapp · 19/04/2015 19:03

I'm the same as Dryheave- good dinner the night before, then up , straight out for a 8-10 mile run, back to glass of water, shower, cuppa and my normal breakfast.

If I eat, I find I need the loo half way round !!

Strokethefurrywall · 19/04/2015 19:14

I can only run on an empty stomach, long runs I'll get in some gels because anything heavier than that and I get stomach cramps - have always found running in a fasted state better for me. Then eggs when I get home.

WeLoveHaribo · 19/04/2015 19:31

Thanks guys!
Don't know why, never thought of toast!!! Haha and I have the natural peanut butter too Wink
Gel? Not sure about those? Never heard of them actually, is it sports drink?
I've only been running a month and sat did 9k Grin
I tend to have eggs after too!!
Thanks, keep em coming!

I have some organic yoghurt with muesli or granola about an hour before I go. If I run in the morning I find I am just too hungry to run on a totally empty stomach.

familygermsareok · 21/04/2015 23:36

Nothing, I run on empty if first thing in morning, am fine to about 8 or 9 miles.
If I have breakfast first it is just my usual toast and coffee and I don't run until at least 90 mins after.
I usually need a toilet stop at some stage regardless of whether I've had anything or not Blush

familygermsareok · 21/04/2015 23:41

Gels are thick viscous sticky liquids which come in pouches and are a form of easily absorbed carbohydrate to give you an energy boost during exercise. You carry them with you and tear them open to take when needed.
I have never used them but I have tasted them and found them utterly disgusting Envy
Some folk swear by them though. Give me jelly babies any day Grin

brunette123 · 22/04/2015 20:13

Coffee maybe 5.15am then leave house 5.50am and run between 6- 13 miles depending on my training schedule but no food till afterwards - I feel fine much prefer that and the coffee means I have a bowel movement before I go - occasionally need to stop for a wee if doing over 8 miles but have found my body is happy with this routine
Find gels and sports drinks give me the runs

LavazzaLover · 22/04/2015 22:52

I have a small coffee and 2 slices of toast a couple of hours before going. Im usually a 9/10 am runner. Not any earlier.
