When I run I get blisters on the arch of my feet, would different socks help?

I've just signed up to do the 13k+ Spartan Super race in June. Have started the couch to 10k today, had to start at week 5 otherwise I won't get through it! I have proper running trainers that I bought from a proper running shop using gait analysis etc..

Today was my first run, it was 5 mins jog interspersed with walking. I get sore bits on the arch of my foot which I think would become proper blisters if I ran another 5 mins.

On the day of the race I could just use competed etc but what can I do now? Do I need new trainers (Sad at the cost), or would different socks help?

Or is there something else I've not thought of???

It might be something as simple as having laced your trainers too tightly, now the weather's warming up. Different socks may also help.

You can get special covering for burns that also works well for blisters (suggested by pharmacist). Looks like cling film but worked for me!

I used to get this because my feet were a bit flat. The ONLY thing that helped (and I tried everything) were some insoles from a podiatrist.

I used to strap my feet up and tried wearing two pairs of socks and so on but it was because my feet were flattening with every step and rubbing on the inside of the trainer.

Yes - what socks do you wear now? I like thousand mile fusion socks, and my new faves are my Ashmei merino socks.

I was wearing some thousand mile ones so not sure if there's necessarily anything better I can try? Insoles might be an idea, do I need to make an appointment with a podiatrist, how do they work? x

How do insoles work or how do podiatrists work?

plipplops · 15/04/2015 09:29

Both I guess? Podiatrists really - do I just make an appt at a podiatrist the same as a dentist? It's turned into a proper blister so if I got that after 3 x 5mins running I really need to sort this quick!

Yes just give them a call. You could explain the problem and then if it's not their thing then I guess they will tell you? Whenever I've been they've sort of mocked up some insoles on the spot and then got some made to measure. Money well spent. I find my trainers last longer as well.

I get exactly y he same thing and the only thing that has worked is twin skin socks - I did try two pairs of normal socks but that didn't work, I think the twin skin ones must slip over each other more easily. I have very low arches too.

Its your arches being flat, the trainers don't hold your arch so get a pair of insoles from a chiropodist or podiatrist. Flat feet often cause blisters

I had that problem when training for the Great North Run many years ago
I switched to a different brand of trainer (think I was using New Balance and switched to Sauconey) as the insole on the NB trainers seemed to end in the wrong place for the arch on my foot.
