How to get my running mojo back.

I used to run 3 mornings a week and do about 3 miles in 30 minutes.
I then had IVF and was advised against running. The IVF worked so I was still advised to not run, I walked instead.
Sadly I lost the pregnancy at 13 weeks.

So, it's been a long time since I've run. I I started again a couple of weeks ago and I could only just manage half of it. Today I could only do 2 miles and I had to walk some of that.
Any suggestions about what I can do to get back up to strength again?

Do you also go to the gym? Cross train? A dvd at home? These can all help

As can some new gear! I'm running London marathon in 4 weeks and I'm say here with no motivation whatsoever. Trained hard but now I'm finding it tough.

Are you using an app? I started with c25k and loved competing with myself a little bit

I'm the same!started back running a few weeks back it's been tough trying to manage 2 miles! trying to get the motivation to even get going is hard even tho I know it will do me the world of good!,might try c25k again, sorry not much good advice, but will be watching!Grin

Really sorry for your loss Flowers

I agree with an app or maje yourself a running soundtrack of all your favourite tunes. Treat yourself to a garmin or a polar watch?

Sorry for your loss. x

I find 'keep on keeping on helps with the distance / speed factor'. Don't focus too much on 'what you cant do anymore' and focus on the 'what you can do' set some realistic goals and don't be really hard on yourself if you have an off day, Some days I leave the house and make it a mile before stopping and walking, Other days I can run 5 or 6 miles. My run quality is entirely dependent on the state of my mind as i go into it.

I started along the lines of well I've run for ten mins today i'm going to run for 11 mins next week and so on and so forth, I never set a goal I didn't think I could achieve (yes i didnt really push myself hard but i was never going to be the next Paula Radcliffe)

Actually every comment on here is really good and super motivational, trust me when you feel like you dont have anything left in the tank and that last cheesy motivational song comes on (i choose a power ballad or something) those legs wont want to stop :).

Thanks for the advice and flowers.

I think I might get myself a Fitbit or such like damn shame I'm 40 about a week before the apple watch comes out
I run listening to radio 4, I used to run to music but I like podcasts and voice more.
I'm off for the next two weeks so I'm going to use that I have more time in the mornings to build back up to it.
I think the problem is that I get back feeling disappointed rather than satisfied.

You don't want an Apple watch for running. You still have to lug your phone with you everytime you run....

I like couch to 5k. It takes it really slowly and before you know it you can run longer distances.

Run easy and for however long you feel good for, then stop or just run just an extra minute or two. Enjoy every run! You'll gradually find you go further and faster. Find a friend to run with too if you enjoy company.
And do a parkrun! Run as long as you can then walk and run again, they're so friendly and normally go for cake afterwards!
And have your favourite snack after every run Smile

Well I went out this morning and managed 2.75 miles in about 32 minutes. I stopped and walked twice for about a minute each time. It was hard work but now I know I can mange it I'm happy.
I run an 'out and back again' course, my app tells me when it's been 15 minutes and I turn around then. I know I'm not as fast as I have been as I didn't get as far but it was still much better than before.

I like to listen to voice when I'm running too Pip, it's an extra incentive if I have something interesting or entertaining to listen to :)

Speed and Stamina will come in time though Pipbin. Excellent effort and glad the mojo is on its way back for you :)
