Hi all, can you pass on your motivation tips please? I used to be great at exercising, I used to go to the gym two or three times a week, walked for three miles on days I didn't get to the gym and did a bit of exercise on the wii fit too but since Christmas (well, October or so if I'm honest), I just couldn't be arsed!! I've been to a zumba class once a week (used to go twice a week but one class was cancelled) and that's about it, what has happened?! And I can already feel the effects, my muffin top has exploded and it feels horrible, I am so self conscious about it and yet all I want is chocolate, I fear I am already sliding down the slipper slope. Please someone give a me a kick up the arse and tell me to get back to it!

How old are you? How old are your kids?
The kicks need to be targeted. Smile

also can you identify what it was in October that led to you falling off the wagon?
Do you enjoy the gym?
A strategy that works for you and fits into your life is needed!

Bit confused as to what my age or my kids ages have to do with this?

Suzanne I actually do enjoy the gym, I like the feeling of getting fitter and stronger, I have just lost my motivation completely!! In October nothing specific happened but I started getting lazy and then thought 'sure it's nearly Christmas, I'll start again after that' !!

Every week I look at my diary to see what other commitments I have and write in when and where I can fit in exercise but then I find an excuse to skip it, aargh!!

iammarge
its about finding triggers for motivation

  • it appears that gym bunny women produce children who grow up into leaner healthier adults
  • middle aged women can stave off middle age spread and its associated chronic diseases by staying fit
  • improving cardio fitness has dozens of health benefits

turn your diary round - pick a class to go to and move other stuff out of its way.

I find that logging my exercise helps (there are lots of apps you can use) then at the end of the month I can see I've done this much running, this much strength training etc.

If I dont quite feel up to a gym session I just go anyway and I tell myself that if I still dont feel up to it once I get going then I can just make it a short session.

You know that the longer you put it off the harder it will be to get back into the habit.
A sedentary lifestyle damages your body, the longer you leave it the more damage you'll have to undo.

Sounds harsh but maybe you need a stick rather than a carrot?
Come on OP, just do it!

I know all about the health benefits believe me, thanks anyway talkinpeace!

I think I'll try a fitness app, haven't used one of those before, any particular one you would recommend Suzanne?

Thanks for the replies, going to have a proper look at my diary for the next few weeks and get started :)
