Just started running & getting some hip pain

I've just started jogging having done no exercise for a long time. Starts off ok but half way round my right hip starts to hurt. As soon as I stop it feels ok & doesnt hurt the next day. Do you think I'm ok to carry
on? Maybe I've started off doing too much too quickly? Really enjoying it so would hate to have to stop but don't want to do myself damage.

How are your trainers?
Are they supportive enough and the right fit for your gait?
What type of surface do you run on?
I suffer from hip pain, during my marathon training ended up seeing a physio, for me it was wear and tear and I have to now do specific strength exercises to keep all the muscles surrounding the hip joint strong and stable.

Also make sure you are not doing too much too soon.

I've just bought new running shoes & they spent ages getting right fit. I've been jogging on pavements. It starts to hurt about half way round, today it's ok though. Could it just be my body's adjusting to the fact I haven't done anything like this in years?!

I'm not really a runner, but like to do a little when the weather is nice. I found that I was OK on our canal towpath (grass/earth) but if I tried pavements it hurt one of my hips. A friend who is a serious long-distance runner reckons that it isn't just the hardness of the surface but also that it's too uniform so every step hammers the joints in the same way. The other thing I do nowadays is to mix up the pace. You might want to try that - it's a good way to train anyway I think. The C25K program might help you as it works by building up walk/run intervals.

I really wouldn't persist doing anything that hurts your joints - I'm OK now but for a while after it was hurting even when walking. But hopefully you can find a way that will work for you.

Also my physio recommended Sorbothane insoles which are shock absorbers. I've just started using them in my running shoes. Going to see how that helps!
