Hi All, I've been asked to enter in the Tough Mudder Midlands 2015, so was wondering if anyone has any experience of this!! I really want to enter but feel I may let others down, I have 3 months to get fitter as I no it'll be really tough
Thanks

How many miles is it over? I'd love to do one of these

To be honest I don't know how far but 12 miles rings a bell, with obstacles through out, like I said I've not done one before but am really tempted but would like to hear how tough it is from anyone who has done it :)

It's 12 miles with an obstacle every half mile or so. The running is the easy bit as it's never far between obstacles and you will want to move to warm up after being in the freezing water!
Some obstacles are challenging because they are freezing/electric shocks etc others are hard physically as in monkey rings, wall climbs.. But there is a real sense of camaraderie among everyone people help you up and over and you can always go round if find it to hard..
It is hard, but it is great fun really enjoyed it and would do again. Don't worry about not being able to complete obstacles just get yourself generally as fit as poss..
And dress for the weather, I did mine in April, it was cold and wet and I was freezing, should have worn thermals..so work out what you an wear that will dry quick/keep you a little warm/cool if in the summer!

Hi Minikins, I did Tough Mudder in Dalkeith ( near Edinburgh ) last year and absolutely loved it. Totally echo what peppapig said, the running part is fine because there is time to rest while queueing at each obstacle. And the whole ethos of tough Mudder is that you help your comrades so loads of people help you up and over obstacles. I couldn't manage the Everest wall after 3 attempts though so just went round. Others like monkey bars it doesn't matter if you fall off, it's just into some water then you swim to the end and get out, you don't have to keep doing it over.
It was June and warm when I did it, I wore 3/4 length running tights, knee length socks, short sleeve running top ( not cotton t shirt, will get heavy and cold when wet). I also got some elbow protectors and fingerless gloves ( kind weightlifters use) as I was told you can get scratches from stones/ sticks when crawling through mud and tunnels, and thought gloves might help with grip for monkey bars, climbing ropes, etc. Not essential, but I felt better for having them.
There were lots of fairly unfit overweight people doing it as well as the super fit iron man types I had been worrying about. And lots of normal people too Smile. Everyone just had a great time and the feeling of achievement at the end was amazing.
I did Insanity workouts for upper body strength and I run anyway. I did train quite hard as I was worried about letting my team mates down, but if you have a reasonable level of fitness and you can run the distance you will be fine.
Do it, it is a fantastic experience.
