or any sort of exercise really Confused was it business as usual while you got it under control?

I have hyperthyroidism and took up the gym four weeks ago.... Also I am running no probs..

Ask your doc but I would not wait for the dosage to be settled, it took 12 months for mine to be settled.

but i felt better a bout a month after pills started.

12 months! Shock ok maybe it is just early days, I had noticed that everything was much much more effortful in the weeks leading up to the discovery of the overactive thyroid - which we found by chance, rather than because of any symptoms (which I assumed were caused by other things) and that was only a few days ago

my marathon is in May and I am struggling to run even 3 miles, it does seem to have trashed my fitness and I hurt so much after any activity - even quite gentle things like yoga or riding which I've been doing for years

What bad luck after that blooming calf injury too. Hope you are sorted soon. I jog walked our local park run route and was horrified how unfit i am after 3 weeks off. My ankle complained 3/4 of the way around on a mix of 3:1 and 2:1 run:walk but I was also finding it hard blooming work. No way I could do that marathon. Building up to a half again in one piece will have to be the goal for the next quarter.

PollyPooic · 24/02/2015 14:00

oh no, am sorry it's also a gloomy situation for your marathon - that was my goal last time, just get back up to the half distance and STAY THERE

my gym just rubbed so much extra salt in the wound by asking me to bring in a letter from my GP detailing what it is and isn't safe for me to do there Hmm I know they are just covering themselves but am used to being relatively fit and strong, I don't know if my GP would even write such a letter or if she knows what is ok? she said there was no reason not to keep training but that I would find it very difficult

LIFE IS ANNOYING SOMETIMES Angry

Maybe you could write a letter that sounds reasonable and likely your doctor will sign it. I suspect you just need to pen something along the lines of "as long as x feels well , remains hydrated and is mindful of her nutritional needs I see no reason for her not to exercise as she feels able."

Annoying to have to do but yes suspect they are covering themselves. Are you back running and still marathoning? i went to boot camp today, felt good to be out again. I realised yesterday's run/walk might have felt hard because when I got home I had a temperature, sore throat and ears and was sweating/shivering through the night. Felt better this morning. I will swim tomorrow and hope that by Friday the walk/run is easier and I can up the ratio of running to walking or up the distance. Interestingly I've noticed that when I'm on walk run I end up treating it like interval training and am running a bit faster than I would otherwise over the distance so hopefully I'll regain a bit of fitness too.
Anyways this thread is about your thyroid and I'm sorry but I've no advice! Just best wishes for you to get sorted soon!

PollyPooic · 25/02/2015 12:49

thanks, that's a good idea although they wanted to know specific things like blood pressure which I don't remember - am leaving at the end of March (have joined one closer to home and much cheaper) but have three more PT sessions to use up first so it's annoying

I just got the all clear from physio (after calf injury) to resume run/walk (3:1 or 4:1) when this hit, GP said no reason not to continue with running except it would be much harder (it already was, I had noticed everything was a sort of 10/10 ridiculous effort level even on routes at paces and distances I was v comfortable at before) am going to try to keep up alternate days, 2-3 miles and look forward to it getting sorted, eventually

when I run walk my pace is often the same overall or faster, it is hard not to do the running bits much faster than normal running I think!
