What to do after C25K?

Ive nearly finished! I havent missed a run and I really looked forward to it right from week 2.
The lovely Laura (NHS Podcast, not sure if everyone does the same one) has really kept me going with her encouraging words. Grin

What I am wondering is what should I do next? Should I try to run further or faster? I definitely want to make running part of my life. Is there such a thing as a 5 - 10 k programme? I cant imagine running without someone in my ear egging me on!

There are similar podcats/apps for C25K graduates who want to move on to 10K - not tried any myself but you'll find a few options if you google "Bridge to 10K".

If you google, you'll find the c2 10k app. I moved from couch to half marathons by using programmes by Hal Higdon and by Jeff Galloway. I found the Galloway was much gentler on my body and I stuck with that for my first marathon. From the start of couch to marathon was 19months and Galloway's technique really made it possible. Galloway's book " marathon. You can do it" can be bought very cheaply electronically and is a good read. Higdons books are also worth a read.
Both trainers are very widely, and highly,regarded for novice runners. Most would agree to do distance and then speed. I just preferred Galloway because I found it kinder and gentler to get to the same result. But then I'm old....

I too am old migrant Grin but it doesnt seem to be stopping me so far, which I am very pleased about. My worst part at the moment is the first five minutes, I always feel like it's impossible and then the further I get the better I feel.

The technicalities of running seem very daunting so glad to hear there is a book worth buying, thanks.

There is a bridge to 10k Nhs podcast. I just continued to run for 30mins 3x a week and when I felt ok sped up a bit and eventually did 5k in 30 mins. I was harassed to go along to a running club and loved it, increased my 5k PB to 25:59mins and then starting going on club runs which were 4-6miles. About a year and half after finishing I was training for my first hm and run a variety of distances in a week with several different people and my dogs. Running really can become part of every day life from not doing it at all. I personally don't do any other exercise as I just love to run. Parkruns are also great if you want to have a set course to run round, try to improve your time and generally be part of a community.

I have no interest in running further so I'm aiming for under 30mins at the moment - park runs are great for this!
