What are you wearing to run in at the moment?

I'm just about to start the couch to 5k program as a complete novice and am a bit clueless about what to wear!
Today I bought a sports bra, some 3/4 length stretchy sporty legging things and a tiny sleeveless running top.
Will I be too cold? If I wear something over the top will I be too hot?
I also felt like a complete tit trying it all on in the changing room and hope I don't look ridiculous

Hat and gloves are a must for me at this time of year. Really makes a difference (as well as long leggings, sports bra, fleecy long sleeve top and something hi-viz if it's dark). By the end of my run I often have to take my gloves off but that's hardly a big problem.

MarshaBrady · 04/01/2015 19:50

Today was about 4 degrees. My hand holding the ipod got pretty cold, might need some gloves.

MewlingQuim · 04/01/2015 19:55

I ran today in old jogging trousers, sports bra, skanky old t shirt and long sleeved top. It was a bit chilly to start with but I was ok once I got going. I'm in the south though.

Asleeponasunbeam · 04/01/2015 20:00

I'm in the south west and still mostly run in shorts and a vest, starting off with a long sleeved top over. I'm not even very tough, but once I've run half a mile or so am uncomfortably hot in long legs. So I find it better to be cold to start with, knowing I'll warm up.

However, as a PP said, there's a lot of walking early on in C25K so you won't get so warm.

Waders would have been useful, today.

Scatlett4456 · 04/01/2015 20:35

I wear full length tights ( Nike warm ones) sports bra, sports vest, compression long sleeved top, capped sleeved top, running jacket that vents well. Hat, gloves, buff.

The gloves never stay on long but its really cold where I live, we have strong winds. The coat therefore is a necessity.

If its minus two or below with a wind I will loose the top and add a fleece bodywarmer.

Primark have lots of cheap running stuff or sports direct if your not wanting to splash cash.

Ultimately you just need to go out and see what works for you. My DH will run in shorts and a tshirt when I wear all of the above. His argument run faster you'll be warmer..

CelticPromise · 04/01/2015 20:41

Winter full length leggings, t shirt and jacket or fleece lined long sleeve if very cold. Sometimes gloves and a fleece headband but they never stay on all the way round.

I wore a buff for the 1st time today to keep my neck warm. Hadn't realised how cold it was. Pulled it over my nose and the air warmed up before hitting my lungs! It hurt.

Cons of running at an altitude of 900-1000 feet!

clary · 04/01/2015 22:56

It depends what time of day.

I have not been at work for 2 weeks so have been able to run in the day. So yesterday for example I wore Nike running capris (come just below my knees) but a l/s Nike top (with thumb holes) as it was cooler (4pm ish).

Tomorrow it will be late so colder but forecast is not freezing - I will wear capris again and a short sleeved running top and thin nylon jacket.

It has to be coooold for me to wear my new full length tights - they did get an airing over the hols but they are well warm.

Gloves are good if it's v cold but I prefer not to carry stuff so would rather be cold at first and warm up than warm enough and have to strip off IYSWIM.

Gosh some of you wear a lot! I never ever ever wear a hat. But then that's true in general so it's hardly a surprise when running.

GerundTheBehemoth · 05/01/2015 17:02

Thinking about it, wearing a cap has become a habit now and it'd feel weird to go running without it, but when I was first starting out I wore one because it helped me feel less self-conscious - like a really crap disguise or something. My cap of choice is very lightweight so doesn't do a lot warmth-wise.

BikeRunSki · 05/01/2015 18:16

Headtorch too. Even when there are street lights, the beam helps show up sparkly icey pavements.

Suzannewithaplan · 05/01/2015 18:26

I wear massive wrap around sunglasses when running during the day for disguise/self consciousness purposes Gerund

Mitchy1nge · 05/01/2015 18:55

was unusually comfortable this evening (apart from feet, mud pulled my shoes off THREE times Angry) in my under armour coldgear compression tights, the long sleeved top that came with my VMLM marathon rejection notice (?) and my orange saucony winter running jacket with a buff round my ears

IronMaggie · 06/01/2015 21:31

I get really hot so I usually just wear a (technical) t-shirt and running tights. I have gloves but they usually annoy me so I don't wear them. But I think I'm a bit weird - I see people wearing hats and jackets in this weather and think they must be boiling!

MarshaBrady · 06/01/2015 21:33

It's too mild for me atm, I like it cold and still, preferably sunny. Weather says 14 this weekend, very mild.
