To go from struggling to do a minute of jogging to a proper runner?

Yes. But it takes time dedication and won't happen overnight

I started c25k in jan 2013
Did my first 10k aug 2013
I did my first half marathon sept 2014

Sorry posted too soon. At the moment I get out of breath after about a minute but would love to be able to run. I've got the nhs 5k app on my phone but seriously struggled to do the first day. I'm not over weight and I'm 31 so from looking at me you'd think I could manage to do more than a minute but I really can't. Is there hope for me?

Thanks ecky- as long as I know it's possible I'll keep persevering.

After my first run, I had to sit on the stairs and wait til the urge to vomit left. Been running for more than three years now. NHS worked for me, and I can run for an hour and a half without stopping, now. You absolutely can do it.

eckythumpenallthat · 14/12/2014 10:15

Take ur time. If a min gets you breathless maybe try 30 seconds and build up to the one min interval Smile

Thistledew · 14/12/2014 10:22

Yes, absolutely.

I started with the C25k program nearly 2 years ago after a change in medication brought my exercise induced asthma (pretty much) under control. I had no cardiovascular fitness and struggled to run for a minute to start with.

The program got me running 5k without stopping, although it was not until the end of the year that I felt comfortable to do so. I have progressed to 10k - so running for nearly an hour and can do that quite happily now.

I'm a couple of years older than you.

bluejelly · 14/12/2014 10:24

Yes absolutely. I started off running 1 min, walking 1 min. Gradually built it up and can easily run 5k now. Keep going!

Suzannewithaplan · 14/12/2014 10:52

yep, I did
started when I was 45
just hafta keep at it!

BiscuitsAreMyDownfall · 14/12/2014 11:00

Totally possible.

I nearly gave up during my first run on the C25K when I started in April 2012. I repeated a couple of weeks so took longer than I should have done. I ran my first 10K in September 2012. 5 more 10Ks through 2013 and earlier this year (May) I ran my first half marathon.

EdithDickie · 14/12/2014 20:46

Definitely!

Started C25K end of May, then did a 10k in October and another in November. Entered a half marathon in April.

The first C25K run I did was so hard!!! A minute has never felt longer! But stick at it and you'll surprise yourself.

Good luck! Grin

BlueChampagne · 15/12/2014 13:29

Yes - but you might need to try running more slowly, at least to start with.

26Point2Miles · 15/12/2014 13:33

Yes you can! I started with c25k and gave up/restarted 3 times!

Running london Marathon next year! You can do it!!

dotty2 · 15/12/2014 13:36

Yes! Loads of C25k graduates on here, me included. You'll be amazed how much better it gets if you stick to the plan. Two things though - I've been running for 3-4 years now and still have some runs which are just inexplicably hard, so you just have to not get too downhearted if some feel worse than you expect them to. And also, if you feel dreadful after running for 1 minute, it might be that you need to go a wee bit slower. Good luck.

59sound · 15/12/2014 13:36

Yes, definitely! I went from struggling to run to the end of my street to running the London Marathon in four hours. Took quite a bit of practice though Smile

Mayvis · 16/12/2014 11:34

Definitely! I started c25k in mid October this year and am now running for 30 mins non stop.

The first week was hard, then I found weeks 4-5 tough. The battle is often mentally than physically for me.

If you feel like stopping, just slow down, take some long deep breaths and count your steps. Takes my mind off the clock.

Good luck.

LovleyRitaMeterMaid · 22/12/2014 21:34

Did everyone do the c25k outside or can you do it on the treadmill?

Asks she that hasn't even broken onto a jog yet...

WhyYouGottaBeSoRude · 22/12/2014 21:40

Is C25k an app?

eckythumpenallthat · 23/12/2014 08:41

I did it on huge treadmill. It's a faff but can be done

eckythumpenallthat · 23/12/2014 08:41

I love this thread!
I've just started c25k and am loving it and these stories have really given me a boost.
I think I might believe I can do it now.
God if I could end up doing the London marathon!!!
Thanks everyone.
