Would you all like to join me here?

Is anybody doing the NHS one also doing the strength and flex plan on alternate days ?

mamapants · 15/04/2015 08:51

Lots of activity here. I haven't been for a run since Thursday as DP been working since then. So it will be a whole week between runs which is a bit rubbish.
Will see how it goes.
Last run it did two 15 minute run.
My sister has offered to have kids for me to run when DP is working so I need to get organised and see when I will need her help. Don't want to go and week between runs again, it's how I'll end up not getting out again.

vikinglights · 15/04/2015 11:17

can I join? I've just done w4d2 and feel quite good about myself. Goodness knows what the neighbours think though. I started off running round the field but it was so waterlogged (think several of inches depth of visible water...) that I did the last third or so running up and down the driveway....

Bowlersarm · 15/04/2015 13:40

I bought W1R2 forward to today. I did it! Very pleased, but recognise the long road ahead.

ILikeToClean · 15/04/2015 14:48

Did W1d2 this morning. I'm finding it fairly easy at the time but afterwards my thighs kill! I can feel they've seized up already! Thought it would be my calves but they're fine. Any tips to avoid this (I do stretch after) or do I just have to suck it up until my thighs get used to it?!

Saz12 · 15/04/2015 20:31

Bowlersarm - I skipped some runs, too, up to about wk4 before continuing the programme more rigorously - I'm due to finish on Friday. I work outside and am fairly active, but not mega-fit before I started. Just depends how you feel, really.

Skipping too many stages is a bad idea IMO, as part of it is getting your legs conditioned to running, rather than just getting fitter.

Nannyplum2015 · 15/04/2015 21:52

Hi, can I join in? I've just completed week 3 and had a look ahead to week 4 and it looks like a big jump compared to the other weeks. How did you all find the transition?

mamapants · 16/04/2015 11:35

Am very pleased with my run today.
Last run I did two 15 minute runs. Today I did 30 minutes of running and a walk on either side so did 5k in 37 minutes.
So pleased with my progress.
Feeling very positive and I'm actually enjoying my runs.
First time in wasn't counting the times in my head as I bought a cheap digital watch. Nice to not be counting and got to enjoy the scenery today.
Beautiful day as well.

mamapants · 16/04/2015 11:38

What's the jump between week 3 and 4 nannyplum?
I have only vaguely followed the official couch to 5k plan seemed easier just to try and run as long as possible for me so can't remember what times week 3 and 4 were like.
I've found transitions not too bad really. I found once I could run for 5 mins without stopping it's just got easier from then on.

Nannyplum2015 · 17/04/2015 11:20

Mamapants- in week 3 the total run time is 9 mins which is practically the same as week one and two, whereas week 3 is 16 mins. So I'm a bit worries as I'm knackered after my runs as it is!

Bowlersarm · 17/04/2015 12:06

I don't think I'll skip Saz, It appears that I'm not capable of leaping some stages, embarrassingly, not fit enough.

I've just completed W1R3, so that's my schedule finished this week until W2 starts on Monday.

A question though if someone doesn't mind advising-if I feel like repeating W1R3 over the weekend is that ok, or should I follow the regime on number of exercise sessions? Or is there something else useful I could be doing?

ditavonteesed · 17/04/2015 15:59

I wonder if I may join you, I started couch to 5 k last thursday and did my 5th run today. I have only done 2 reps of weeks 1 and 2 as I didnt find them particularly hard and week 3 is lovely, really enjoyed it. I used to run but havent for a long time and have planter fascitis so trying to make sure I build up the muscles properly an dont make it worse. I am planning a 10k in september

Saz12 · 17/04/2015 22:39

I used the NHS programme, and it emphasises the need to take a days rest between runs. But my understanding is that there's nothing wrong with running every second day, if you feel the urge, so long as you're not still suffering from a previous session! I've mostly been running every second day, as it's fitted in with my schedule better.
You can repeat runs or weeks as much as you want to.

locketpocket · 18/04/2015 10:51

Hi all
Think I'm going to scrap w7 and start againHmm Blister all healed, so went for w7r2 on Thursday and it was pants. Tbh I didn't eat particularly well during the day and just don't think I had the energy - could only run for 20mins. Dh has been very supportive, which I've realised is playing a massive role in completing c25k.
So, I'm off out for w7r1 tonight. I've planned my route, planned my mealsGrin so there should be no excuses!

mamapants · 18/04/2015 12:45

How long was the run supposed to be a locket?
20 minutes still good.
Went for a run this morning, didn't want to but was good once I got going. Did 3 mins walking then ran the rest of the 5k, took me 35 minutes 17 seconds. Really pleased, just over a minute faster than last time.
Just going to keep running the 5k for now see if I can keep getting a bit faster. Then not really sure what to do then.
Anyone else at the same stage as me?
What are you planning on doing?

AppleSnapple · 18/04/2015 20:08

I have just done my 1st ever one... Week 1 Run 1!!!! Sweet mother of god that was harder than I thought! Shins are burning and legs are wobbly (doesn't help that it's all up hill and down dale where I live!) surprised that I found it so... Not hard, exactly... But certainly less easy than I thought!! Only getting into exercise after 5 years of babies and exhaustion!! Does it get easier, please say yes??!!

Gluetap · 18/04/2015 20:56

Hi everyone. I wanted to add how good the C25K app is. I started the course in January and completed it in March. I now run 5k three times a week including doing Parkrun (more like cross country at my local Parkrun!) every Saturday morning. If you told me this time last year that I would be doing that I would've laughed (I was 8 months pregnant then) as I never thought I could run 1k let alone 5! So to all those just starting out, keep going, it does get easier and the feeling you get after running 5k without stopping is amazing!

AppleSnapple · 18/04/2015 21:22

I genuinely thought I wasn't quite as bad as I apparently am... After 1st run tonight my shins are in bits!! They were hurting after a 1 hour dance fitness class yesterday but really hobbling round tonight- am actually currently in the bath! I did stretch and warm down but clearly not enough, fingers crossed I'll be able to walk tomorrow!! This is a great thread, it seems there's great support on it. I often blame child care (or lack thereof) for my lack of exercise but I never really thought of running round the garden, that would work!! I think maybe my problem tonight was running too fast- I met a few people I knew while out and so I sped past them! Anyway, am undeterred... If anything I've shocked myself even more into thinking I NEED to do this!

ditavonteesed · 19/04/2015 09:59

got up and did r2w3 this morning, enjoyed it, the woods had only people running in them and they smiled at me like I was one of them.

locketpocket · 19/04/2015 10:09

SmileSmileSmile
Completed w7r2 (forgotten I ran w1r1 last Monday, another plus point for the app Grin)
I won't lie, it was challenging, but I ran the furthest I've ever ran (run?) 2.2 miles. A very happy locket pocket hereGrin

One thing I can't get my head around is running 3miles/5k - will I really be able to run this in the next few weeks?

locketpocket · 19/04/2015 10:11

So 2.2 miles = 3.5k
Oohh, I can see light at the end of tunnelGrin

DontDoItDi · 19/04/2015 17:58

Hi I’d love to join you. Really impressed by everyone here. Did my very first Couch25K Week 1 Run 1 this morning. I’m 54 years old, I’ve never run before and I spend most of my life sitting down at a computer whether it's for work, shopping or entertainment. And I’m very unfit! I enjoyed the 20 minutes and I want to keep going but it would be so easy to let other stuff get in the way…. So any encouragement would be great.

CruCru · 19/04/2015 19:58

Hi all

I have been away and haven't run for two months. Planning to start again on Tuesday I think.

I'm planning on getting up for w1r2 tomorrow morning at 5.30! Am hoping the feeling of virtue will cancel out the pain of the early start... Wink

Onecurrantbun · 20/04/2015 07:43

Hello! I'm on a rest day today but will be running w2r1 tomorrow. I got myself some New Balance trainers from an independent running shop locally and wow I'm amazed at the difference. I'm sort of enjoying it but hoping I can keep the momentum going. I tell DH which days I'll be going out at the start of the week which kind of helps me to commit.

5.30 apple - are you MAD???!
