Good luck butterlies . Very good Smile

Anawi · 14/03/2015 07:14

Thanks stilllearnin.

Just trying to drag myself out of bed, eurgh I am not a morning person! Wk2 starts here. In 5 more minutes maybe?

Whowouldfardelsbear · 14/03/2015 07:26

Good luck with your 20 minute Zinnia! Sure you'll be fine - i really got going in the second half of it - found the five mins the hardest.

stilllearnin · 14/03/2015 07:35

Anawi - I'm dragging myself up to do the davina DVD - I will if you will!!

Anawi · 14/03/2015 09:28

Did it! Was a bit more on an effort today but okay. I'm so glad I roped a friend in to do it with me, I'd never have got out of bed uf it was just me going this morning!

How did the davina go stilllearnin? I have a batch of her dvds in the loft somwhere, should really dig them out.

stilllearnin · 14/03/2015 13:31

You know, I don't like it that much. It's the 7 minute DVD. But it is quick - I did 2 workouts and a warm up. I actually prefer the shred but that jillian did my knees in so although I'm tempted I'm sticking with davina for now. Well done on getting out there.

butterfliesinmytummy · 14/03/2015 15:02

Woohoo did my 5k in 38.46... But couldn't even seethe finish line by then! According to map my run, it was 5.6k and I crossed the line at 42.36. Pretty happy, will do another one in a few weeks. If you're training, sign up for one, it's a great thing to do.

zinnia · 14/03/2015 23:35

Well done everyone & congratulations Butterflies in particular, fantastic!

I did the 20 min run this morning and whowould you were right, it was difficult getting started but once I got into it was basically fine. Spend most of the time trying to remember to keep my back straight, shoulders down, look straight ahead etc etc. I. Am. Amazed. Never run for that long in my life.

Admittedly was not exactly speedy - 2.8k in 20 mins! But, as a woman once said, it's (definitely) not about speed.

So chuffed. Bring on Week 6!

Whowouldfardelsbear · 15/03/2015 09:03

Well done Zinnia - it's a great feeling isn't it?

Well I did 5k today! Took 33 mins 19 seconds so really pleased with that. Honestly - I started this thing on 21st January so taken just under 8 weeks to get here Grin

Whowouldfardelsbear · 15/03/2015 09:04

Posted too soon - meant t0 say "honestly . . . the best thing I've done in years"!

Lagoonablue · 15/03/2015 10:02

Well done all. Especially those who have done 5k. I am on w7 now so running 25 mins. I think my route is 5k but currently includes the 5min warm up and down.

On that - I hate the 5 min warm up walk. Does everyone do it? I do but really I just want to get on with the run.

Have to say, the programme really works doesn't it? I too started in Jan and have never run. And now am running nearly 3 miles. I am amazed at how quickly you can build stamina.

butterfliesinmytummy · 15/03/2015 11:43

Well done bear, fantastic time! I must admit it was my upcoming 5k that pushed me through the last weeks of the programme. I signed up in about week 6.....

stilllearnin · 15/03/2015 16:07

Well done everyone. They are both great times butterflies and whowould. I have been hanging round on the general running thread which is honestly ok for lower miles and you get good advice and the chance to Shock at someone doing 31 miles!!! The advice there is it is the length of time on your feet that helps you build your endurance - so that speed is less important which is good news for me. I am a plodder.

On that note I read this about different types of slow earlier - check it out.

I did c25k+ stamina today and really pleased to be getting back to that type of distance and not feeling like I am going to die. Its 35 mins paced run and I did 3.75 miles.

I do a warm up walk but normally around 3 mins. I do think it is important - I may be imagining this but I understand that fluid goes into your knee when you start moving it, so to get that moving first protects your knees when you actually start running. I'm off to bake my mothers day cake and do some nit-combing (the glamour never ends) Grin

keep it up people.

Kasterborous · 15/03/2015 16:46

Well that's it I did my very first official race today a 10K, all thanks to the C25K. I wasn't the fastest by any means I did it in 1hr 7mins and 39secs which was a PB by over three minutes and I loved it. I started the C25K just over a year ago and it's the best thing I ever did. To those of you just starting out or well on the way, keep going it's more than worth it.

Lagoonablue · 15/03/2015 16:49

Had anyone lost weight with this programme? Is not going it for me but am in it for fitness tbf.

stilllearnin · 15/03/2015 16:59

kaster hello! Well done you. That time is fantastic! I'd be really pleased with that. I need to enter a 10k I think. I feel quite scared about it though. All sorts seem to do a 5k and there are loads of charity runs at that distance. But I think of 10k as for proper runners. Might feel a bit of a fool!

Oh, I have lost weight but that is not due to running -altho theoretically it must help. I think it is helpful in that you see quite quick progression on c25k, which is fantastic psychologically. That boost to your confidence and focus on what you can do, rather than what the scales say or how fat you are, has to help any endeavour especially weight loss.

addictedtosugar · 15/03/2015 17:05

Lagoon I started loosing weight when the walking intervals stopped - so week 7 onwards. It was very, very slow, but since before C25K I was slowly gaining weight, it was very positive!
I also shrunk MUCH more than the scales suggested - so although the weight was nominally very similar, my trousers were hanging off my hips.
But for weight loss, I don't think its a magic wand!

Nice speeds people.

Still was that 3.5 miles of running, plus warm up walking, or total distance over the 45 min programme? Just wondering how far off the pace I am.

stilllearnin · 15/03/2015 19:32

Not the whole 45. But I did carry on into the cool down as I cannot bear walking all the way up the hill I live on! I think around 38 mins actual running for the 3.5 I am not fast at all but I think I am relatively consistent! I usually measure the distance I actually run rather than the walking bits- not that it makes any difference as it you are still moving and it's all part of your overall pace I think. I went out at Xmas with a friend that power walks. She had little stamina for running but her walking pace was a really good workout so in my eyes all that counts - I just have a habit of measuring the running part.

Grin short question , long answer!!

addictedtosugar · 15/03/2015 20:21

Interesting!
I did most of stamina this morning.
38 mins (5 mins walking at the start, and maybe 3 at the end), and did 3.4 miles (5.5km). So, we are going at a very similar rate.

I don't have a smart phone, so can't be bothered to split the run and walking!

stilllearnin · 15/03/2015 21:44

I don't have a smart phone but I have a garmin! It's really great too - 2nd hand from ebay. I don't worry about pace really. If I keep running regularly and do intervals once a week i think I'll speed up naturally. Also my absolute dream is trail running and apparently you can expect to get slower doing that (yes, I'll be going backwards!!)

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 16/03/2015 12:22

Hi can I join please?

On Day 2 and feeling really out of breath towards the end of the 60 second jog. Blush

How many times a week do you all run? The app says 3 times but I'd like to do more.

lemonhope · 16/03/2015 12:44

Well done everyone. I didn't get a chance to run this weekend so am starting w3 again today and hopefully will run today wednesday and friday.

I feel a bit hungover today Blush mother's day bottle of wine so that will be fun!

I put the warm up on just as I am putting my trainers on and adjusting phone belt thingy so I end up walking for 2 or 3 mins.

butterfliesinmytummy · 16/03/2015 13:01

Welcome pete! The programme will take you through, I found I needed the days off for my muscles to recover, although I walked the dog every day or swam in between. Try a different exercise on your non running days maybe? It's amazing how this works, you'll be building up to 5k in no time.

butterfliesinmytummy · 16/03/2015 13:02

Oh yes and some weeks took me two weeks to complete, I repeated a run until I could do it properly.

PeteCampbellsRecedingHairline · 16/03/2015 13:14

Thanks butterflies. I'm also doing Davina's 7 minute fit so can still exercise on a non run day.
