Flat stomach tips

Any advice from ladies with a flat stomach?

I am 5ft8 and a size 12. I am quite slim in the legs and arms, have large boobs and my stomach is not toned. (Mixture of polycystic ovaries and love of rice I think).

I am going on holiday in Jan and I am trying to get bikini ready. I don't want to lose weight really just tone stomach and lose a few pounds there.

I have stopped eating white carbs. I am going to spin class twice a week, plus gym a few more times where I do a mixture of cardio and weights, plus abs.

How long will it take to look half way decent? What would be the best exercise for a quick diet?

Do you have something like a CX Worx class near you? Core strength for whole duration. It's worked wonders on my stomach...I can vaguely see an ab Grin

rightspark · 22/10/2014 13:07

What is CX Worx sorry?
But I guess the answer is no lol. Well done on the ab Grin

I find the abs section of pump classes is great (if not slightly sick inducing)

Kettlebells is also great.

Northumberlandlass · 22/10/2014 13:23

CX Worx is a dedicated core strength class - Les Mills (Body Pump / Body Combat etc) the Abs section of Pump is great, but CX is really intense. You may find something similar? I still have a way to go, but it really has helped me

We have 15minutes of abs at the end of spin which is okay nothing special. There are body pump and body combat classes so I will start doing those as well. Thanks.

Do you ever do two classes one after the other?

Bikram yoga

(I realise I've written on two threads about this tonight alone after a spectacular class.. I promise I'm not a bikrolll)

Hey - yes to two classes in a row, but no way I could do Attack then Combat....
Can do Combat & Balance or Zumba & Body Pump!!
Mainly because I don't have many free nights & have to squeeze them in Smile

In my experience, you'll have a flatter stomach if you significantly cut carbs - so no grains at all, just get your carbs from not-too-carby vegetables (no potatoes, sweet potatoes, beetroot, butternut etc) and the less carby fruit. And eat much more fat so that you're not hungry. You'll see a visible difference within a week if you stick to it (although it will disappear pretty quickly if you don't stick to it).

You cannot spot reduce fat or loose a few lbs from one area. Abs are built in the kitchen you need to look closer at your diet cut out all the processed stuff. Eat more frequent meals and regular intervals is the way forward.

Really, who would have thought that Hmm this thread was about the best exercises for abs. I was interested as it doesn't matter how much I lose I always have a flabby tum. I have been a size 8-10 before, but still looked pregnant. We are aware that the food you eat is the most important factor in regards to losing weight, but it doesn't make you toned.

Pilates and planks!

I agree with this, eating protein and fats like ghee, coconut oil rather.

I combined the above with doing a gym work out 3 x a week including:

  • oblique muscle (side / waist one, I worked on this one and made my waist look smaller, even though it just toned up)
  • abs machine ( 3 x 10 sets and build up weights, so I started on 15kg and now do 35kg and 3 x 20 sets)
  • plank (I do this daily and use to only be able to plank for 10 seconds at a time, can now do 2 x 45 second planks)

I'm not as strict on diet now but continue the exercising, and my stomach isn't as flat as it was (but far more toned and core muscle is stronger too)

I'm not sure why the Hmm. I wasn't suggesting cutting carbs as a way to lose weight (though you may do - but you replace carbs with fat, not nothing), I was suggesting that it makes you less bloated and therefore makes your tummy look flatter. I was a size 8-10 before I started cutting carbs. I'm still a size 8-10, with a flatter stomach. I haven't changed my exercise routine.
