I normally do 10km races. Most weeks I run 10 to 15km some weeks 20km. I don't get much chance to get out and run, usually one long run in the weekend and a shorter run one evening. I do crosstrain on the bike and pool and Pilates. Last year I did a half marathon. I mostly just did one long run at the weekend building up from 10km to about 18km.

Have just ordered a treadmill so hoping to run 3 times a week for the winter to get a decent for me time inbmy next half

mitchy I am increasing number of runs from 3 to 4, think it would be hard to fit more in. I also do an outdoor boot amp once a week which has been a great help. I'm a plan follower too, think I will use the one on the Edinburgh marathon website for my half as it has plenty of variety in it.
And 5 weeks is ages, you'll be fine!especially with all your experience

Longest run is a half marathon earlier this year. Currently ATM I do about 8 miles or so a week so not far, but Im still getting back into it after hurting my knee while doing the half marathon.

thanks everyone

I feel like a weird kind of running vampire, feeding off all your miles Confused

I suppose the goal, as I read somewhere, is to do as few as necessary to meet your objectives? Was feeling achy and shit and thinking of dropping back to 20 at least for this week but just had a fab run and suddenly, nah mate, stick with it for now.

Will do 3 races of 43-50km over trail this season. Just done my first one- 43km- the 50km/wk I'm doing at the moment in training was not enough, or maybe I just need to restructure to have one longer run of at least 30km. Anyway, I seriously struggled over the last 10km due to leg fatigue. Got to fix it by the next race

However, I did a 3.45 road marathon a few years ago on less than 30 miles a week plus 2 HIT sessions (weights and anaerobic cardio- seriously hardcore- I feel sick just thinking about it). It worked though and put less pressure on joints/ less risk of repetitive movement injuries.

I think your targeted mileage is fine, so long as you do one run of say, 9 miles, within your overall total. The long runs are critical to build endurance and help you assess your pace.

Mitchy1nge - I ran with Rob Young this week, such an inspiration, I knew him before he set about this task, a sweet, shy as snythjng unassuming guy married to a lovely girl. I never ever imagined he would do what had is doing pretty much on a whim. He is //www.marathonmanuk.com - now when I'm running I think about what he is doing and remember his own mantra 'neves give up' . How the hell his body can withstand what he is doing I don't know - my bones would break - I suffered stress fracs on under 30 miles a week! But he is managing to run a marathon a day between 3am and 7 am usually and is averaging 2hrs or less sleep a day due to all the travel commitments to get to officially timed events etc. He had done 208 marathons in 199 days so dad having never run one before he started his challenged to break the world record. And mostly he is running in what looks like a v itchy kilt! So now I think "right this is soooo mind over body " . It's really made me see that we are capable of anything if we really out our minds to it and want it enough. I'm rambling - wine talking ;-). I just wanted to share his story with you as your passion and obsession with trying to run and meet goals and your posts /questions efc always really resonate with my own and so I thought I'd share his story with you. He's on Facebook etc and I think he's such an inspiration. He's not Davins Mcall with a huge team and marketing machine behind him. He's doing it all to raise money for children and as he's had do little marketing he's raised a fraction of what others with media powers behind them have. I shuffled 10k with him and left h to run the rest in the pitch black of night. I was with a bunch of runners and I was holding up the back nicely but he ran next to me suporting ME?! How his body isn't in bits is a scientific mystery to me .

Longest run ever was 26km (about six months ago)

Longest race was HM (three weeks ago)

Weekly mileage very variable - anything from nil to around 40km

Wouldn't know a training plan if it hit me on the head!
