As of tomorrow ALL my children will be in school for the first time, we'll have been in the same house for over a year and DH will be back at work following his brain tumour surgery! I am going to exercise properly. For me. And I want some technological wizardry to log it, encourage me and do wizardy things with the stats.

I have a cto10k app and I'll be reprising that somewhere in the middle. But for the first couple of months at least I'll be on a treadmill - it is too hot here to run outside at the moment. Which means I need to be able to log runs with out GPS magic. I'm also going to be doing some lifting. And I'll probably mix it with some fitness blender stuff.

Is there anything I can use to log it all that is good? Or anything that won't do that but will be good fun for any of those elements?

The nike + training app is good for an all round workout. I also use an interval app for running as I struggle running for a long periods, broken my ribs too many times and can't expand my chest very well. So run for 2 mins/ walk for 1, seems to work well for me.

I like the Map My Run and Map My Walk apps. Very good for GPS recording where you've been, how fast you went, etc.

I have a couple of HIIT apps - basically a timer app where you can set it to time intervals in sets. So, 1 minute rest... 20 seconds high intensity... repeat however many times you want.

There are several Couch to 5k apps - I think the one I've used is Runkeeper.

I have a cto5k, I don't need GPS at the moment- it's still 40 degrees outside so I'm stuck on the treadmill.

Will look at the nike+.

Have downloaded Endomondo and fitocracy but don't really get them at the moment! And my fitness pal doesn't give you calorie burn for strength training - I understand why but dammit, I want credit for it!

I'd recommend:

  • iMuscle 2 (shows you exercises for every muscle in the body)
  • Tabata Timer (20secs exercise, 10secs rest) great for HIIT
  • Pages and Google sheets (to electronically record workouts if you have a iPad/tablet)

I like You Are Your Own Gym (YAYOG) by Mark Lauren. There are preset workouts or you can create your own, videos of how to do the exercises, you don't need any special equipment.

I use Sworkit for strength training, you can sync it with MFP to get your calories taken off. It's free and you can set your own workout by choosing from a list of exercises.
