So DDs DF did tough mudder this year and made it look pretty easy. If you were there, I was the spectator covered in mud after the knob I was spectating decided to give me a bear hug after the mudslides!

I'm fairly certain I want to do it next year. Anyone else game???

Training buddy is as nutty as I am and more determined, we are now 8 weeks after break and have shaved 2 mins a mile off our pre-break best time. Friday there we done 5 miles at an average of 9.50 min/mi with our 5km time coming in at 30.33, rather proud of my broken buddy Grin.
If you have a good trail route locally then I would give it a try to get yourself used to running on uneven ground. Balance work like yoga pilates and body balance came in handy too, all the Ratrace training plans have core stability work as standard. Karrimor also do a really good, cheap pair of trail trainers for around £24 that stopped me slipping around too much.

Wow! Loving your enthusiasm!!!! Keep me updated on stuff you do please???

Ok, I have just volunteered to help at the Cheshire one in September on the Sunday in order to get my runners discount for a go next year.

I currently can't climb a flight of stairs without getting out of breath. I'm thinking of doing the midlands one next may, gives me time to train.

I was going to start a thread suggesting a mumsnet mudders team but it looks like this might be it. I'm in.Grin

McBear · 01/08/2014 05:45

So are you currently doing no exercise at all? If you're just starting out you're not that far behind me Grin

Is the midlands one at Kettering again???

OP posts:
BumpAndGrind · 01/08/2014 12:48

Yup. I'm not overweight, more like underweight. but I am very very unfit.

EmpireBiscuit · 01/08/2014 12:54

I did it in June in Scotland.

EmpireBiscuit · 01/08/2014 12:55

McPie - have you done Deerstalker before? I though TM was a walk in the park in comparison.

McBear · 01/08/2014 15:46

Bump I couldn't see any in Kettering. You've made my dayGrin

I'm overweight and unfit so you'll run rings around me. What's your training schedule?

OP posts:
BumpAndGrind · 01/08/2014 21:33

I'm so unfit I'm just going to swim to start, and progress to running by Christmas. Going to take up bouldering I think.

I'll start training properly in the new year. My cousin just did the Kettering one with no training at all.

I've never had an exercise schedule before, this is all new to me. I am a couch dwelling night owl usually.

Here is the info for the Midlands one next year... its in Kettering again. toughmudder.co.uk/events/2015-midlands

If you volunteer at one then you get a discount to run it at a later date. I'm volunteering at the Cheshire one in Sept.

BumpAndGrind · 01/08/2014 21:34

I'm a dirty smoker....my lungs are shot. This will be hard.

McPie · 01/08/2014 22:04

EmpireBiscuit nope Grin but my training buddy has and I have been informed that it will be a piece of piss if we keep up the hill repeats. What was the mud like this year though? I live a 15 min bus journey away from the country park and it was my training ground for the 2 months before so 75% of the course was our trail runs which helped big time, I had run the trail on the Wednesday in the rain and it was really bad then!

EmpireBiscuit · 01/08/2014 22:11

There was feckin snow on the ground at the top. The climb up that second mountain nearly broke me, if I wasn't so scared I would slide back down the scree cliff I would have rolled over and cried.

EmpireBiscuit · 01/08/2014 22:12

The disco in the woods was good though.

enormouse · 08/08/2014 17:59

bump I'll join you in the complete novice category.

I've signed up to do wild mud run in April next year. My dps going to do it with me if the gp clears him (he busted his knee a while ago). Otherwise it's just me going solo.

I'm tentatively looking at tough mudder and the Spartan runs. and wimping out

McBear · 08/08/2014 18:14

You cannot wimp out! We'll all do it and it'll be piss easy because we are so healthy and toned! Ha!

I've done duck all. Been on steroids since last Sunday due to an allergy. Couldn't breathe so figured it was an excuse...

enormouse · 08/08/2014 18:37

Gaah alright McBear. Smile
I'm going to book mudder next week. Probs the one in Scotland. Where have you booked?

Im pretty wussy and feeble. But I like the idea of getting strong and fit to do this.

I must be mad

McBear · 08/08/2014 19:24

you are mad Wink

Kettering/midlands. I haven't even looked at the details. I may go to the gym tomorrow...

OP posts:
BumpAndGrind · 08/08/2014 23:48

The Kettering one at the end of May next year. I linked the details further up the thread.

If you volunteer at one before then you get a discount and can run for £15 or £30, depending on if you volunteer for a full day or half.

enormouse · 09/08/2014 16:18

Ok. I'm tempted to join the MNet contingent in kettering. I'm in NI so would have to travel regardless Smile.

How are you lot building your upper body strength? I was thinking of climbing or bouldering (like bump)

McBear · 09/08/2014 23:07

This is gonna sound stupid but I was gonna use monkey bars at a kids playground. Blush

I have a pull up bar for the living room door and just the weights machines at the gym.

The fee goes down to 30 quid or by 30 quid if you volunteer?

OP posts:
BumpAndGrind · 11/08/2014 02:48

Down to either 15 our 30 depending on shift length.

BumpAndGrind · 11/08/2014 02:49

So you pay either 15 or 30.

McBear · 11/08/2014 12:58

That's brilliant. DP paid 95 I think. Tbh, they are absolute rip off merchants. A tenner to park in a field, 11.30 to watch. Not even a warm shower after Angry

OP posts:
BumpAndGrind · 12/08/2014 23:10

I'm looking forward to volunteering because I will very to see it first hand before I have a go and will have a better idea what to expect.

They let you choose where you will be too. I chose finish line because I think all the cheering will be fun.Grin
