Has everyone that tried this succeeded ?

I was running on my own for 2 weeks, then thought it was best to do it properly and downloaded the app.

I've just completed w3d3 ... It was hard !

I'm proud I'm still going ( I haven't run since school !!) but so worried I'm going to fail ...

Yes. I did. Now working up to 8ks.

(5 mile runs without any powerwalking breaks.)

Keep at it - you suddenly break out of the non-runner mentality/physicality. But tbh I failed it twice until I decided to do it with a friend. We kept each other going.

DuchessFanny · 23/06/2014 19:30

DH said the same thing as you earlier .. That I just have to keep going !
Still can't imagine thinking of myself as a 'runner' but cheered that it comes eventually !!!
Thank you

just keep going and don't think too far ahead. I'm on week 4 which means 5 min runs which there was no way I could have done when I started the program. so have faith in yourself that you can do it and don't panic when you see what is coming in the next few weeks. there is no shame in repeating a week but you might just surprise yourself in what you can do.

Purplewithred · 24/06/2014 08:13

Did the whole thing, much to my amazement. It's brilliant.

JimbosJetSet · 24/06/2014 08:19

I hadn't done running at all before I did this and I certainly wasn't fit or sporty, but I managed to complete it.

My problem was once I'd finished the nine week program - I didn't have the motivation to keep going further and further. I enjoyed it while I was doing it though, and I plan to start it all over again once the weather has cooled down a bit.

My top tip is to download the 'get running' app if you have a smart phone. This allows you to listen to your own music while you're running, and the instructions to start/stop etc come over the top of your music.

Good luck!

The programme is fantastic - just trust it, and don't worry if some weeks take longer than 3 runs.

There are loads of people at various stages on this thread although they are a chatty lot, so will probbaly start a new thread fairly soon.

Come join in!

Thank you everyone ! This is just what I needed to hear !!
I'm planning on keeping at it, and to hear it has worked for others so well has really spurred me on !
Thanks for the link to that thread sugar I'll certainly go and have a look !

Yes! It definitely works. In fact I went back to it a few weeks ago as I was coming back after a 3mth injury lay off. I was becoming disheartened that my fitness was shot to pieces and my normal 5k runs were more run/walks.

The structure of the podcasts made me feel like I was actually achieving something. I started at week 4, got up to week 6 and ran 5k last week without any walking.

Once you move up through the weeks parkrun is a fantastic way to keep motivated - I have made so many friends at my local one and being timed each week is a fab challenge to see how you can improve :)

I found Monday's run quite tough - running again tomorrow, and feeling really determined now, thanks very much to you all !!

Keep at it!! I did w4 d1 today. I was shocked and amazed that I managed it and I bet you can too.

Come over to the runners thread. You run therefore you are a runner.

TessTackle · 24/06/2014 17:43

we're over here!

BIWI · 24/06/2014 17:45

Yep, I did it and it's great! Don't panic when you get to week 5 (I think it is) and you suddenly have to do a 20 minute run without stopping - you will absolutely be able to do it, and once you have done it you will really feel like you're a runner!

DuchessFanny · 24/06/2014 21:00

This is brilliant ! Thank you - just read these out to DH and he said 'see !'

I kind of can't wait to get on with it now .. And I'm right behind you Tess so I'll be snapping at your heels (figuratively !)

really love the 'you run, therefore you're a runner'
