Losing weight by cutting out fizzy drinks?

I was wondering whether anyone had cut out/down fizzy drinks and lost a considerable amount of weight?

I only drink fizzy drinks and have put on a lot of weight the past 12-18months. I want to lose weight but wondering whether cutting out the fizzy drinks will help me be more successful

There is certanily a known connection both with sugared drinks and the low calories ones with sugar substitutes and weight gain/being unhealthy. Drinking water instead can make a big difference.

I'm starting cutting out the fizz tomorrow having weighed in tonight for the first time in months.

I've put on 2 stone since giving up the cigs 18 months ago Sad

I gave it up and if anything have put on weight!

Depends what you replace it with.

If you replace it with water, and have a lifestyle that involves moing around a lot and get regular exercise, then yes it will help.

If you replace the fizz with fruit juice then no, it won't make any difference to your weight.

It started me off losing weight, certainly.

I'd tried switching from regular to diet but that never made a difference. Last March I was just edging into the overweight BMI category and decided to cut out all drinks with sugar or artificial sweetener. I lost nearly a pound a week after that, and I noticed that I wasn't eating as much rubbish generally (there was no going to the shop for my Dr Pepper fix and grabbing some chocolate at the same time), nor craving it. Did that for 2 1/2 months and went from 11st 4lbs to 10st 9lbs.

Put a bit on over holiday (all inclusive so I allowed myself fizzy drinks again and ate A LOT of cake), then decided to give 5:2 a try. Did well on that and then introduced exercise.

By November last year I was down to 9st 3lbs and I've stuck around there since.

I don't like tea or coffee anyway, so I drink water (still or sparkling), herbal teas or green tea. I have the occasional fizzy if I'm at the pub and driving (very rare!) or out for a meal but I don't really like it that much any more now.

I'd much rather eat my calories these days Grin.

I used to have sugary and now only have a few glasses of diet coke occasionally. Its definitely been a part of losing weight.
