I swear by nike, I had free runs until they got too small but they were really comfy and felt like I wasn't wearing shoes because of the way the soles are cut. Now I have roshe runs which are also amazing, very comfortable - when you stand on a small stone etc the sole sort of moulds around it so you feel nothing. Both are quite expensive but definitely worth the money, I wear mine as fashion trainers as well so get double the use out of them.

I'm the opposite - I hate thick cushioned soles, I have Go Meb speed 2s ATM. Best thing you can do is go to a running shop (runners need, run and become, or local independent one) and ask for help. They will help you find the best pair for your gait and personal preferences.

If you are serious about getting into running I would second hopefully's advice about going to a proper running shop (not a high street sports shop but somewhere that specialises in running) and they will look at the way you run and give good advice - a lot of people's feet turn in or out when they run (look at you regular shoes and see if one side of the heel wears down first). However, proper running shoes are quite expensive (70 pounds plus) and are not that good for doing other things like aerobics where you do side to side movements. So if you are a total beginner and don't even know if you'll like running, I would probably just get a cheap pair of trainers and you can upgrade later if you get the running bug. Unless you have dodgy knees / ankles in which case bite the bullet and go for specialist running shoes from the start.

Thanks for the advice. I will try our local athletics store. Xx
