I think I might be mad.

I went to the swim training yesterday and I am going to really struggle. Someone tell me it's going to get better.

Am not unfit. Just not swam for years and never had good technique to begin with.

It will improve!! Have you got a training plan?

I'd love to do a tri

Make sure you do some swim training in open water. Very different experience. Yes, it will get better and the swimming is the worst bit. Most good triathletes are swimmers who have diversified into running and cycling rather than the other way round.

I will never be good at triathlon just want to give it a try..... I can run a bit but not great at that.

I am just debating whether to sign up to the tri club but think I will. No training plan as of yet just want to get my swimming technique sorted first. Which could be an effort in itself.

The club do open water sessions. So I can give that a go.

Come and join us on the 2014 triathlon thread!

Have you got your eye on a particular one?

AggressiveBunting · 13/06/2014 13:32

Yeah, sorry- I didn't mean to imply you should only do it if you're good at it- just a comment that the swimming is the toughest part to 'get' so don't be disheartened if you find that to be the case because you'll be in the majority. Best if luck with it. I'd join the club because they'll give your training some structure and help you be effective without overtraining.

Pootle I will come and join you. I haven't got my eye on anything in particular at the moment.

Find yourself a swim coach and do some private lessons to learn a smooth freestyle before jumping in with swim training - it makes a huge difference.

I've been following a 'couch to sprint' training plan - though its a very fast couch because the starting point is running for 30min, swim for 30, cycle for an hour - and have my first sprint, pool based, tri next weekend. I've enjoyed the training as its more varied than just running

HalleLouja · 14/06/2014 10:01

That's a good idea. I know of a good kids swimming coach I might see if she does adult lessons too.

Good for you. Triathlon is simply the BEST lifestyle.
When it's sunny you can ride a bike, when it's rainy you go to the pool, when you're short of time you fit in a little run, you never get bored as there's variety. And you get really fit and muscular.
I love it!!!
