Question about trainers

I've just started C25K, and was in pain at the front of my ankles when I ran. Went to get my feet looked at today. They stood me barefoot on a contraption with mirrors that meant you could see underneath your feet. Then there was a light that shone across the glass and showed in green the points of contact where your feet touched the glass. My feet are completely flat! Everything was green bar my first 2 toes on each foot. So...having no arch, it looks like I need a motion control shoe for a heavy overpronator. He recommended the Asics Foundation, Brooks Ariel or New Balance 890. Does anyone have these, and if so, what do you think of them?
TIA.

I very much like New Balance trainers. I have 860s. They're comfortable, work well for me and last about 400 miles. But that's me and my feet. You need to try shoes on and have a run in them. They'll all be slightly different. You should run at lleast on an in store treadmill, but a decent shop should let you go for an outdoor run.

Hi. Congrats on C25K. Have just completed also. Could I do a brief hijack and ask where got your feet looked at? Need to do something similar here. Thanks.

A dedicated running/triathlon shop will look at your feet and how you run. Up And Running have branches around the country and they are OK. Accelerate in Sheffiled are brilliant if you are in that area, think they may have a shop in Peterborough too. Triangle in Leeds are good. New Balance have their own shops which are good, but only if you know you want their shoes! There was a shop on London Victoria called Run and Become when I was a child (1980s) which was great, but I don't know if they are still there. Don 'to go to JJB/Sports Direct etc. First of all, they are simply sales assistants with no knowledge of how to fit shies well or match them to your feet/sport and secondly they sell overstocks/last season. Which is fine for "casual" purposes, but the absorbent rubber in trainer soles had a shelflife before it starts to harden up and decay, so if shoes gave been hanging out in a warehouse for ages they won't be any good any more.

Best thing I did was have a gait. I ran a half last year had awful knee ache at about 8 miles. I needed support trainers and since I got them I haven't looked back. Brookes GTS adrenaline...last years stock but all the same I got them cheaper & they do the job.

I went to SweatShop at Xscape in Castleford, spoke to a very nice man called Dave. He didn't put me on the treadmill because I stressed that I'd literally just started the programme, but had a good look at my feet and stood me on the contraption.

Thanks BikeRunSki. There are a couple of Up n Running shops near me, and I've also been recommended "The Complete Runner" near Ilkley. Will give them a try ASAP, W1R2 proved that I need something doing with my feet! Grin

Herewego congrats on completing, I wish I had, but I've just started.

I have very flat feet & my podiatrist recommended Asics Gel Kayano 18 (or latest). It provides excellent arch support for those who have flat feet & also improve overall foot stability. I've used them for the last 5 years & they are fantastic!

My daughter has flat feet too & I get her New Balance trainers, but I feel that the Asics do a better job. I do use them with custom arch supports though.

I went to Complete Runner out towards Ilkley today and got some New Balance 860s! Had to get men's to be wide enough, and size 8.5. Even my feet are fat! Grin Think I'll go out and test them tomorrow. I hope they help my ankles

Thanks for all the advice.
