I think paleo is where you roam the earth living on whatever is in season/available locally - so quite samey unless you are paleo woman who can fly and import produce from other continents? Grin

Roam the earth Grin Grin Grin

JaneParker · 30/05/2014 18:48

Ordinary natural foods (i.e. what most people no longer eat!). Meat, fish, eggs, sea food, all kinds of vegetables, sometimes goat's cheese, good fats. Am never ill. It's the best and the most natural way to eat.

MelanieCheeks · 30/05/2014 19:37

Paleo is soooo not the same as 5:2.

Suzannewithaplan · 30/05/2014 19:37

breadmaker bread is very easy no work at all honestly Mitchy.

I also make big vats of (lentil ) stew Melanie, in the pressure cooker

Sleepwhenidie · 30/05/2014 21:42

Come and have a look at the Eating better thread Mitchy, lots of ideas there..admittedly not a lot of pasta though Wink.

Mitchy1nge · 30/05/2014 22:06

ah that looks lovely and long, there are sure to be ideas there, thank you

yeah somewhere we have a breadmaker, I asked mitchy jr #3 (the only one left and who lives on chocolate milk) if she would be tempted by some bread/toast whatever and she said 'nah' so prob won't bother - although we are on a Family Meal Mission generally

the plus side of my dreadful habits is that I'm over 7kg lighter than this time last year

but that isn't really a good example to set so after this weekend we will start eating nicely (she will be with her dad and I'm staying with my ultra-running friend which means lots of running friendly pasta Grin)

I feel better just for having mentioned it so thanks everyone Flowers

I run - miles can vary wk to wk but this week I've done 10 miles twice, 6 miles twice & 4 miles once.

But my diet isn't something to be proud of I have to admit! Example:

breakfast - 3 slices of toast & a large coffee
snack - coffee & a biccy
Lunch - sandwich & crisps
After school - tea & biccy
dinner - something like chilli/spag bold/roast dinner

or can be beans on toast or scrambled egg. Sweet potato & rice etc.

But I hate fruit & veg that shows as I'm on B12 pills 3 times a day.

I am known to skip dinner if the kids have a footy match/training which starts at 6. Then I can't be bothered to eat.

See, told you its crap!

fingersonbuzzers · 01/06/2014 20:10

I exercise loads and have a crap diet, if that's at all helpful!

Pabboo · 01/06/2014 21:56

I weight train two or three times a week, swim when I can, walk a lot.
I eat a huge variety of things, but always something sweet every day - a couple of chocolates, a mini magnum, whatever. Nothing is banned.

Have you tried the app twogrand ?

It is a photo food diary - you can follow others who are the same weight as you, have the same goal weight, exercise to the same frequency, or just like the things you like (I following people who ETF, LTT, and CTFO - eat the food, lift the things, and chill the f out. )

You photo each meal / food you have and you can see what people you like are eating. Great for nomalising food choices and giving you some ideas as well as keeping an eye on what you eat - you stop and think and are more mindful of your choices if you have to photo each one!

Oh, and yes. 5:2 NOT paleo. 5:2 is eating 500 cals twice a week, based on lots of science on mice, and on human doing something slightly different (fasting every other day).
Paleo is batshit crazy eating - trying to eat like our ancestors (despite a lot of the foods they ate no longer being available). - and based on a complete misunderstanding of "science", genetics and evolution.

Mitchy1nge · 01/06/2014 22:24

oh that sounds fun, LOVE looking at what other people eat will check it out, thanks :)

additionally am toying with idea of trying a nutrition plan from training peaks, but is prob a load of shit or stuff you could easily work out for yourself if you were not a lazy bastard

OP posts:
Pabboo · 01/06/2014 22:37

Eat the food.
Enjoy the food
Lift some heavy things
Eat more food
Relax

No nutrition plan required. Try and get a reasonable amount of protein (could be anywhere from 0.8-1.6g per kg of your body weight, depending on whose advice you follow, but the main point is it is good for muscle growth and helps you feel full) and....well that's it really. And I don't even bother with that. If it's high in protein I steer towards it, but only if it is something I really want to eat.
How I feel afterwards (physically - energy or lethargy - and emotionally- guilt or satisfied) effects my food choices next time round far more than the numbers on the side of the box.

Sleepwhenidie · 01/06/2014 22:52

Paboo perfect advice - I think you should write a book Grin!

Mitchy1nge · 01/06/2014 23:01

what a great philosophy!

I was thinking about whether to do more weights or if it's covered in my general life (fucking massive bales, 25kg sacks of feed and mucking out the ever flooded stable) - need some new stuff to do on non-running days for juneathon Grin - but I just don't feel like going to the gym after too much of that, maybe if it's actually stopped raining and my normal day is a bit less strenuous

OP posts:
Sleepwhenidie · 02/06/2014 09:43

Sounds like you are doing plenty Mitchy - how about adding in some challenging yoga? I go to the gym and lift heavy/do HIIT and also kickbox. After years of finding yoga dull I made myself try a load of different classes in January this year and found I love hot yoga. Its a great 'offset' for the other stuff and I am really enjoying the difference its making to my body and general mood! Apologies if I am preaching to the converted Smile

EarSlaps · 02/06/2014 22:51

If you're exercising a lot then plenty of protein needed- my breakfast is Greek yoghurt, seeds, almonds and honey. Lovely.

Omelettes or smoked salmon and cream cheese on multigrain bread for lunch or similar.

Meat plus vegetables and small portion of carb dinner.

I do eat too many cakes still though.

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 03/06/2014 02:34

I do 8 - 10 hours (strength/flex/HIIT training)
Plus 1.5 - 3 hours yoga and freestyle dance /stretch stuff a week.
Breakfast: full fat Greek yog with sunflower seeds, berries, nuts, maybe dried apricots prunes etc.
Or couple of fried/scrambled eggs, butter, slice wholemeal.

Lunch: 3-4 chicken drumsticks or half a chicken, half an avocado, bag spinach, baby carrots, broccoli, tomatoes, cucumber, lots of olive oil herbs and lemon juice

Dinner: h

TrucksAndDinosaurs · 03/06/2014 02:41

Dinner: home made burger in sour dough bun with huge salad
Or steak and green beans in cream mushroom mustard sauce,
Or fish in garlic butter with pak choi or kale and roast tomatoes
Or home made meat balls with sweet potato wedges and tomato salsa
Or the rest of the chicken curried in coconut milk with spinach and chickpeas
Or fried Halloumi and roast red pepper with cucumber yogurt dip (whole milk yog) and flat bread

Drink black coffee green tea English breakfast tea and glass dry white most nights.

No snacks except emergency raw almonds in bag if shaky after heavy work out.

Tons of water.
5'7, weigh c. 9 stone.

orangeflutie · 03/06/2014 06:45

This is a good threadSmile I'm watching with interest as I never know what to cook these days. I have three dds, the eldest being particularly fussy and my DH although he likes cooking when he's not at work tends to eat steak and chips and fry ups. Not good as he needs to lose weight. Really need ideas for healthy food with carbs that's quick and doesn't have loads of ingredients.

EarSlaps · 03/06/2014 07:51

A really easy meal- roast a chicken in the slow cooker, serve with sweet potato wedges, bagged salad and Nando's sauce. Then left overs go in soup or curry (I make a curried chicken soup with chickpeas and Loads of veg.

Mitchy1nge · 03/06/2014 20:18

yoga! thanks, had neglected that

no progress on improvements to diet yet but I do feel a bit shit physically and that usually precedes an effort to Eat Proper Meals so will be back to make use of suggestions here, thanks everyone

OP posts:
Sleepwhenidie · 03/06/2014 21:30

I think if you start eating regular meals along the lines Paboo set out (prioritise protein, lots of veg and good fat) then I bet you will feel better fast Smile.

Mitchy1nge · 04/06/2014 08:55

need to go shopping, went to waitrose yesterday and just wandered around and came out with nothing

sooner or later something will inspire me, running usually helps me to eat plenty of nice pasta and omelettes and vegetables and stuff

OP posts:
Sleepwhenidie · 04/06/2014 10:12

What are your favourite foods Mitchy ? Maybe we can suggest some meals based around those?

Mitchy1nge · 04/06/2014 11:35

if it's just me to feed am v happy with my porridge and blueberries and chia seeds (when was running bit further but miles are creeping back so might resume that) and my main meal of loads of veg held together by two beaten eggs like a frittata, could eat that every day but have a troubled and impressionable teen to set example for

so is just a stressy battleground at the moment
