Knee 'giving out' with pain

I bought some high wedge boots and after wearing for a while (I don't usually wear heels and live in a hilly area, thus much up and down of hills) and my knee kept 'giving out' and would have a sharp pain every time it did.

It was still painful and challenging going up and down the stairs even after I went back to flats. It sort of went away after a week or two, but it flared up again when I played netball last week, pain when I go down on that knee, running etc. I'm really frustrated and upset because I've just joined a team and have another game tomorrow and I'm trying really hard to lose weight and get fit and feel like it's ruining it for me.

I just tried to start No More Trouble Zones and had to stop because OW OW OW backwards lunges on my knee. I'm going to go to the doctor to get it looked at because it doesn't seem to be going away on its own, but does anyone know what's likely to be wrong with it and the treatment it's likely to get?

Please tell me it will just heal and go back to normal - I'm not even 30 yet and I'm worried this might be permanent. Frustrated!

Also, would it be safe to get a knee brace and still play netball/do exercise dvds? We also have an exercise bike.

Ow, sounds awful. In your situation, I'd rest it as much as possible until I'd had a medical opinion on it.

Is it swollen, at all?

pandarific · 18/05/2014 14:24

Thanks sunbathe. The whole knee isn't, but the area above the knee - the patella I think? - looks a little bit puffy compared to the other one.

I'm just gutted as I really want to lose weight and tone up over the next month to two months (occasion requiring bikinis plus birthday) and I'm really unhappy with my body at the moment. And I have a kettlebell bootcamp booked up and everything! Grrrrr.

Do you think it could be bursitis? If that is the case then icing as much as possible will be your best friend. Check with a physio xx

I had bursitis and I had two physio massages and I iced my knee 24 hours for a week. I also took neurofen round the clock and used voltarol gel.
