How to deal with the "day 2" feeling of "ooooooowww"?

Day 2 of Jillian Michaels No More Trouble Zones (Shred is too cardio intensive for me as I've got dodgy knees). I now ache everywhere.

I want to keep going (if I stop I really won't get going again), but I don't honestly think I can. Day 1 (yesterday) I gave it my all, today was maybe about half the intensity and I did "dial it in" Blush for some of the moves.

Tomorrow will be day 3... does it get easier? How can I make it easier?

It does get easier but you have to keep going. IME it gets better quickly. I'd say within a week you won't ache all over.

You can take an ibuprofen and had a warm bath to help.

This will be me after this weekend. DS is 9 weeks old and I've put off dusting off my running shoes for too long. I still remember the pain when I got back to it after DD. Confused

My dodgy knees meant the couch to 5k just about crippled me, so gave up at week 3, but have serious running envy!

NMTZ seems to be okay for me as it's cardio to start, then she uses lunges etc. to keep the heart rate up, but it's not pounding up and down which is what kills my legs; I have substituted a couple of moves (surrender move being one) that I can't do (tried and epically failed) but at the moment I can't move from the table without wincing... I want the good pain, not this "ooooooowwww" pain.

I know the pain well. I remember taking up spinning and getting that owwww owwww pain and 'saddle bottom'.

You just have to keep on it otherwise the muscles relax back and you'll have to go through it again.

I take it just some decent running trainers wouldn't be enough to help with your knees? The arches of my feet used to ache terribly before I got proper trainers but I appreciate that isn't the same as knee pain.

Ps an ibuprofen really will help!

No to the trainers; I did go to a running shop and invested in a pair of trainers correct for my gait etc, but I have kneecap issues (something they offered to correct surgically, but the operation only has a 30% success rate and can make it worse!) so it's the jolting of foot on pavement which then makes the knee ache which is the issue.

Having said that, the trainers do make walking easier, so not a total waste of money, but still a pest.

Boo. That's a shame. I've only got into running since having DCs because it is so much more achievable than driving all the way to the gym after a long day!

Exercise DVDs are similar in that sense. Don't need to turn 45 minutes exercise into a 2 hour round trip by the time you've showered.

CarpeJugulum · 09/05/2014 12:32

Exactly. Nearest "proper" gym is about 15 miles away so no use; my living room floor is... there -> Smile

Running would be great if I could, so Jillian is the next best alternative. Just the "ouch" factor I want rid of!

If its really painful I would take a day off, maybe go for a walk or a gentle swim or do a yoga class instead - but only one day, you need to let your body recover and get stronger but in the longer term, its doing it regularly that will massively reduce the pain the day after Smile.
