Watching with interest...,, it's the only jiggly part of me now

Have 'heard' that sprints burn belly fat.... No idea if it's true

Sirzy · 26/04/2014 11:35

Afraid I am also coming to watch with interest. Mine is getting better but still the most wobbly part by far

Sunnyshine · 26/04/2014 11:42

Glad in not the only one! My legs are getting better, my arms too but the belly wont budge!!!! Hopefully someone can help us all!!

If your tummy is jiggly because it is fat then you need to keep at it and reduce your body fat - it is not possible to only reduce fat in a particular parr.

If you have a tummy because of separated stomach muscles, have a google of diastasis recti (I think)

Sunnyshine · 26/04/2014 11:49

Yes jiggly because of fat i think. Keep at what? The gym and running, no exercises that will help?

Reducing weight has overall effect, including tummy. But the other big thing for me is reducing food that makes be feel bloated.

Weight goes on my tummy, but only the right way of eating (for me) and exercise combined sorts it out.

Joules68 · 26/04/2014 11:59

I can feel muscles underneath and have an emerging 'six pack' on upper part of stomach but lower part has a pouch of sticky out fat!

Mitchy1nge · 26/04/2014 12:02

think you just have to keep plodding away to lose body fat generally, although anything that builds up the muscles below the fat will probably help appearance and firmness too (is that what 'tone' means in this context? where the fat between the muscles and the skin has reduced so the muscle is visible?)

pilates, yoga, any sort of core strengthening stuff?

CMOTDibbler · 26/04/2014 12:04

Since I've been cycling hard in addition to running and swimming hard, my middle is sooo much more toned. I hadn't appreciated how much effort came from there

NurseyWursey · 26/04/2014 12:07

There's no way you can reduce fat from one area, that's a complete myth joules so don't worry about doing the sprints and it having no effect on your belly!

Toning however, swimming is excellent for an all body tone especially the stomach arms and legs, and have you tried yoga to improve your core muscles? Obviously sit ups help, and have you tried doing stength training rather than just cardio as a lot of the weight machines can tone your belly too. Rowing as well!

ilovepowerhoop · 26/04/2014 12:08

using a weighted hoop can help to tone that area. I go to Powerhoop classes several times a week and I have definitely slimmed down around the waist and hips.

I also have my own Powerhoop.

The best way to reconfigure your body composition is a calories in < calories out. The best exercise to help achieve this Is strength work, especially heavy lifting. Bodyweight stuff is also pretty effective. If you like to buy into stuff then body by you (mark Lauren) is very good and requires minimal equipment (pull up bar)

Joules68 · 26/04/2014 13:14

Well I've just googled the sprints/body fat and there does seem to be some correlation between the 2, was worth someone doing 'studies' on anyway Grin and I guess a few sprints in our life can only do some good and won't harm!

Op as a runner interval training can only improve our running anyway so if no belly fat goes then at least you've not wasted your time as your running will have improved

Joules68 · 26/04/2014 13:15

Have heard good things about this strength training, might have to give it a go if I can find time

It won't work for spot reduction, but sprints will still help you lose weight and get fit!

Strength training is fab. So many women don't want to do it for fear of becoming 'butch' but it doesn't work like that

adjusting your diet may help to drop a bit more body fat
