Is this all completely new? I would build up gradually if so, maybe start with the C210k and some gentle yoga on off days and then add the weights in later. Make sure you have one rest day a week. If you do too much too soon then you risk injury and you'll have to rest for ages while you heal up.

If you burn more calories than you consume then you will lose weight, but it'll be much easier to keep up with if you do it gradually, and it'll be easier to keep off too. If you join some support threads- there's a C25k one for sure, and probably a low carb one in the weight loss forum- then you'll get loads of moral support.

Best of luck!

Not completely new, have done all 3 on and off for a while (more off than on if I honest), just struggle to stick with it, which is why I haven't scheduled a day off because I know if I take a day off I wont start again.

I would say weightloss is 70% diet, 30% exercise, so that is all good as long as you are eating fewer calories than you are burning.

Sirzy · 20/04/2014 12:46

Sounds like too much especially if your not used to that level of exercise.

I have lost 4.5 stone in a year mainly through diet but exercise is generally 3 or 4 runs a week (anything from 3k to 9.5k), 'bootcamp' once or twice a week and then the odd bit of 30 day shred (coz I havent got into a good routine with that)

I know you don't want a day off but I really do think you need to remember that rest is important for your body

Joules68 · 20/04/2014 12:56

I've done the same as sirzy and have lost the same in same time frame. And kept it off

Bear in mind c25k is a fairly quick programme and you will soon work up to 3,30 min runs a week.

A rest day could be a good idea

sweetassugarhardasnails · 20/04/2014 13:16

Okay, I'll take your advice and stick in a rest day, thank you all

Day 1 - c210k

I ended up doing 2 miles in 30mins, I realise this is painfully slow but I got off the sofa and did it so feeling pleased with myself.

I would do another run day or two.
Perhaps drop a weights day, and do yoga as a daily discipline.

Yoga and weights are great but won't necessarily help you lost weight, although if you work hard with weights you will increase muscle mass which will help you burn calories. What do you typically do for a weights session?

Can you fit in a morning brisk walk every day ? Even if it's just 20 minutes ( you need to raise your heart rate) it would be a great habit. This will kick start your day , it's good for your metabolism, will raise your energy levels. After a while you may be able to run/walk this.
Also be careful not to eat more just because you have exercised. I know marathoners who struggle to lose weight because after exercising it can be tempting to over eat when you've trained hard.
Personally I think yoga counts as a day off. I train hard ( run, swim, gym) but my rest day is a 90 minute yoga class.
Do you swim?

sweetassugarhardasnails · 23/04/2014 17:16

Example of
Upper body session -Back Squats
flat bench press
single dumb bell row
dumb bell flies
ez bar curls
ez skull crunch
Lower body session - kettle bell swing
hamstring lunges
side lunge
back squat
quad extension
calf extension
dips
swiss ball crunch

I could do a 20 min walk in the morning whilst everyone else is still in bed. But being realistic I know I wouldn't fit a swim in (2 children, doing a degree, placement, and paid work)

I have to disagree, I think weights will help with weight loss if incorporated with the right diet.

I do weights and get a much better calorie burn than I do in a cardio class - just get a really good programme set and chuck in a few 1 -2 minute cardio blasts. We are all different but for me personally I have had far better results in the gym regarding weight and body shape than I ever did in 3 years of doing endless spin/cardio classes.

Mix and match is the best way, I gym everyday but sometimes finish off with either a metafit or a spin session.

BikeRunSki · 25/04/2014 17:43

You need a couple of rest days (alothough I guess of these could be your yoga day).
If you are a new runner, or havn't run for ages, I wouldn't do 2 days in a row (Sunday, Monday)
Weights will help in the long term as muscle burns more calories than fat. In the short term though. you may put on weight as muscle is denser than fat.
