Mumsnet at the Marathon

Don't worry folks, we haven't suddenly turned into superwomen and made a last-minute entry into the London Marathon.

We will, however, be there on the day to show our support for the largest single annual fundraising event in the world - and the people that have put in months of training to take part and raise money for a good cause.

We'll be providing live coverage from the Marathon on our Twitter page @mumsnettowers.

Let us know who you're supporting and which charity they're running for (or indeed if you're participating!) and we'll give them a shout-out on our Twitter feed during the big day.

I'll be there supporting MrAmyMumsnet who is running to raise money for Target Ovarian Cancer. Do come and say hello if we cross paths.

Best of luck to you all!

Very best of luck to all the runners. And have a great day supporters. We've been (with the kids) for the past 2 years to support various family members. It's a great fun day out. And incredibly inspiring.
Looks like the weather will be kind to supporters again

It's so inspiring to hear all of your marathon runners' stories. Everyone is running for such great causes. We'll try tweet about as many of you as possible.

It's only going to be me attending tomorrow but I'll look out for mumsnetters in the race and on the sidelines (not just for the jelly babies and champers of course!).

Make sure you remember to bring plenty of water and suncream tomorrow - looks like the sun will be shining on us all day.

Good luck with all your last minute preparations!

Joules am getting a bit nervous now but also very excited!

Will look out for you Amy and your jelly babies

KristinaM · 12/04/2014 19:14

Well done piggy, I hope you have a great run.

But remember not to eat jelly babies unless you have done so in training. Even super dooper all singing all dancing mumsnet jelly babies .

So if I were to enter the ballot for next year are there any tips as to how to try and win a place? Think it opens at midnight on 22nd April but guess places go within hours? Is it really just the luck of the draw?

Am so inspired by you all and will be watching and cheering tomorrow (only via the telly unfortunately).

Joules68 · 12/04/2014 21:54

Im not sure how the ballot works either!

CMOTDibbler · 12/04/2014 21:57

The ballot is run such that there are a few weeks to put your application in, and then people are chosen by random. You can also get a place by having run a 'good for age' time at another marathon, or by signing up for a charity place where the charity has bought the entry and then you commit to raising at least a required amount

SweetestThing · 12/04/2014 21:57

There are no tricks to winning a place. Once the deferred places have been removed from the total, then the elite and GFA places, the club places and the charity places, what's left is allocated on a random basis to whoever is in the ballot. I've applied 10 times in the ballot and only once got a place (under the old "5 consecutive rejections and you get an automatic place" rule). I sometimes think the hardest bit about the London Marathon is actually getting a place,
