How do you carry your water when running???

I usually don't run for longer than an hour so don't need water but have recently upped my runs to 9 miles (90 mins) so could still last w'out water but today did 12 miles and have such a headache after. I forgot to bring water on this occasion but I had planned to drop a bottle at the beginning of the run as I'd loop back by it at about mile 7 so could have a drink w'out having to carry it all the way. I have a belt but find it very cumbersome and I have a small backpack with a bladder inside for long races but that feels like overkill for a 2 hour run so what do you all do???? On this run I decided to invent wrist bands that stored enough water to keep you going but didn't take up a hand or mean a belt banging around your hips or campaigning the council for water fountains along country routes - I'm hoping I won't have to go to these lengths!!

I have a belt with 2 bottles. You just have to find the right one - put them on and run up and down to see how they sit before buying. Mine cost £13 from Sweatshop and is the absolute wasp's nipples Grin

I carry a running bottle (the one with the hole in the middle) in my hand, it holds just enough to quench my thirst without being too heavy to carry whilst running.

Backpack and bladder for anything over an hour - for two hours I don't think it is overkill at all!

I use a Camelbak running pack for long runs. Its neat and tidy and not annoying

I used to use a belt with 2 bottles, flapjack, banana, plasters, phone, tissue, money (for pub just in case) and so I could stuff gloves and hat etc in when I got hot. And head torch in case I got stuck in pub. Looked soooooo not elegant but I was usually running v slow on the moor for a few hours and I could have a picnic half way round too.

I now use a OMM back pack and bladder, which I believe will fit even more crap in Grin

I carry similar to Impatient. It has the added bonus I can shake it like maracas when I get bored.

Great tips - I will be venturing over the 10 mile mark soon too. Have a belt with room for one bottle which I've used in the summer but am not that keen on. Looping back for a drink sounds like the way ahead for me.

I suspect you were not hydrated enough when you started out on your run.
It's not too warm today and unless you were running at race pace, you shouldn't need that much water for 12 miles.

Do, first off, make sure you drink enough the day before and before you run.

I sometimes drive round a route before I run it and dump a bottle half way round.

Mine doesn't - Its very narrow and has a mesh surface. It has handy pockets in the belt for gels and fruit pastilles, and a phone/money pocket - this one.

It was pricey, but I got a lot of use out of it not running too - I use it on days out with ds, including one hot and memorable day when dh, ds and I drank 4l of water between us out of the Camelbaks

eaurouge it's not even a detour- my runs tend to go up onto the moor, and back through the village and past the pub door- I've never been a runner to pass an open pub door in the last two miles on a sunny afternoon. I consider all 'training' just a long detour to keep me out of the pub....

eaurouge if you are ever in the south west give me a shout- I've been out in the wilds today today as not at work, but ended with a cream tea instead as it was only lunchtime.....

If you have a backpack and bladder just use it. I use mine on anything over 1.5 hours. It is so light and well designed I barely notice I am wearing it....my second best present ever ( first is my garmin!!)

Just seen this message about the OMM. In 2014 we have a number of events where we want to encourage younger people to compete so we have dropped the entry age to 14. This is provided that the other member of the team is over 18. The events are OMM Bike Spring (Kielder) 26th/27th April. OMM Lite/OMM Bike (Autumn) North West of England 6th/7th September.
