Running gear for beginners

I am going to start the couch to 5k so I need to get some running clothes
I have trainers already, years old but they are running rather than tennis trainers
I was hoping for legging type trousers and a loose-ish top, will I need a jacket?
Has to be cheap, I was thinking sports direct?

Sports direct is great for reasonable inexpensive gear. My top tips would be to get good running shoes, if your old ones are well used replace them. A good sports bra is important: freya and shock absorber are good.

In the winter I run in a running tights (Asics ), a long sleeved base layer shirt (helle Hansen, craft ), running socks (Asics) and a head band that covers my ears and a running jacket.

Investing in decent shoes and a good sports bra seconded here!

I wear tights, long sleeved base layer with loose t shirt over the top to cover up my wobbly postpartum jelly belly gloves and a wooly hat this time of year. Don't need to spend much on these - do you have a Decathlon near you? I find they are very good value.

Recommend the shock absorber Run bra not that they make one big enough for my massive breastfeeding norks but they were great before I was pregnant Hmm

Happy running! Smile

I would check that the trainers still have suitable support and suit your gait - if you've had kids or injuries you might well now have a different gait or biomechanical issues which need correcting.

If those years old trainers have done a lot of mileage they might well have lost the support. It's worth checking - I think an independent specialist running shop will probably give you an answer. You really don't want to get an injury.

Winter running - I second the helly hanson light thermal wicking top, plus possibly a windproof running jacket. Decathlon very cheap and their versions of branded sports stuff are very good quality.

Spend money on trainers and a bra, then sports direct for leggings, socks and a top. When I started c25k I wore normal leggings and a fleece till the running was larger chunks of time and I felt like running kit was needed

I get hugely hot when running - today I was out in leggings, a base layer top and gloves and was still hot

Thanks for the recommendations
The trainers are old but still like new as I havnt done a lot of any running in them, I just use them if I'm doing the 30day shred
They're nike ones but have a bit of bounce in the heel
Is a sports bra still necessary for a smaller bosom?
I think there is a decathlon not to far from me actually so I will pop in there

Measure yourself like the bra ladies in Style and Beauty advise (nude, bend over at waist so your torso is parallel to the floor, measure tightly below norks and then loosely around norks at largest point. Underbust measurement is band size, count up in inches to get cup size - 1 is A, 2 is B etc) for the sports bra. You'll regret not getting a well fitting bra! I'm very happy with my Tescos sports bras tbh, and I'm a 30ff in normal, 32f in sports bras.
