Best running tights?

I usually run in shorts come rain or shine but it's too bloody freezing, especially with the sheeting rain & wind so any recommendations? Was thinking compression would be good as am upping my running, but need to be super cheap - if that's possible. Have found Nike to be good previously but recommendations welcomed!

I love, love, love Lidl running tights. Better IMO than Nike/Adidas type brands (and around 1/3 of the price!). They do windproof ones but they're too warm and restricting for me. The normal ones are ace though.

Tiredemma · 06/01/2014 09:50

I have some Under Armour running tights- I also have Nike but the UA ones are better IMO

Tiredemma · 06/01/2014 09:51

these are the ones I have.

Fantastic. Thanks. Don't have a Lidl anywhere near me, so it's going to be the under armour! Woohoo! Warm, compressed legs, here I come! Grin

I bought some Ronhill ones the other day and they are A.MAZ.ING.

I bought some random ones from TK MAxx a few weeks before and they are utterly shite, they literally fall down around my crotch after 200 yards.

Tiredemma · 07/01/2014 20:29

twelveleggedwalk I also got some shit ones from TKMAXX that rolled down over my flabby belly as I ran.

Ridiculous.

Love my UnderArmours. They even make my legs look slim- which they are not.

eurochick · 07/01/2014 20:30

Ronhill, no question.

CMOTDibbler · 07/01/2014 20:31

DH got me some lovely Ron Hill ones for Christmas with a sort of brushed inner. V comfy and fit well. I also got More Mile compression socks which are working well.

CoteDAzur · 07/01/2014 20:37

Why is Ronhill so good? I'd love to know, as haven't yet found anything better than the Nike ones I wear.

Mitchy1nge · 07/01/2014 23:09

I can't find them now but my favourite wintry ones are Saucony, they have got their 'vizipro' orange bits on them which tragically match my jacket (have found similar ones of theirs but with pink, why is everything fucking pink?) am extremely loyal to this brand

also have some nike tights but they are too shivery and only to be used in an emergency at the moment

Mitchy1nge · 08/01/2014 00:45

(I can find my own pair but not a link to them online)

Sooperswooper · 09/01/2014 07:06

I have my underarmour compression ones arriving today! Never even thought on Ronhill OR compression socks (forgive the ignorance; are they calf length or just foot socks?) but am chomping at the bit to try them. I wish I had a decent running shop nearby so I could actually go IN and try the different brands, but sadly my local one has downgraded & is utterly rubbish now.

On another note (and hijacking my own thread), what have you found the best breathable rain/wind proof high viz jacket to be? I usually get so warm when I run, hence the shorts wearing, that I don't tend to bother, but I think it might be a good idea, especially for longer runs after dark. Have a ( pretty crap ) purple showerproof thing from Karrimor but isn't really doing a great job.

What a disappointment! Too baggy on the leg (I assume compression are supposed to be a little tight), the top of the tights didn't even touch my hipbones and was far too loose.

Ronhill, here I come! Is there a particular type anyone recommends? If it helps, am short (5'3) and a size 8 so advice about sizing welcome too as not sure if a S or XS would work best with compression ones.

That must mean that im fat

Sad

Ah Sooper, such a pain when you are looking forward to getting some new gear. Sorry I can't be much help but just wanted to share your frustration.

FWIW I have a pair from TK Maxx which I LOVE - they do fall down a bit but I can live with that as they have a lovely big high waistband and they are tight in the leg. I also have a Nike pair which are OK but I prefer the TK Maxx ones. I bought some Ronhill capris from TK Maxx and they are an XS. Like you I am a size 8 and they are a good snug fit.

I treated myself to a Ronhill running jacket for Xmas with some John Lewis vouchers I got - it's the Vizion Windlite - and so far I am liking it a lot! You certainly can't miss me in it Wink!

Sooperswooper · 09/01/2014 13:12

Nah- I reckon it's probably because I like to keep my tummy warm when running so without realising it have morphed into the female equivalent of Simon Cowell (if he ever left the yacht and went running around a city centre).

Will head to TK Maxx over the weekend and see what they've got; otherwise it's the cycle of anticipation, delight, acceptance and return. Am lusting after that jacket now though anjelika. Might have to suggest that my birthday really does need to come a month early. Do the Ronhill tights have a pocket in the back by the way? Tend to keep my iPod there (perhaps why they fall down..?)

I like ronhill tights - they have a perfect pocket at the back which holds my iPhone. I have men's long tights and women's capri's - both comfortable, flattering non see through and wear really well. I don't have the winter version though, I fear they may be too hot and on really cold days I wear uniqlo thermals underneath.
